    Big Dave,

Great Post! I posted a non-coin post and a couple of members replied -- no none coin posts. I guess you can't please everyone. But all-in-all, I think these boards with its members do a great service for each of us and each other. Glad to see there are others whom feel the same way. I rate the boards high, but I would say 93 to 95 percent. There is a bit too much bashing (but I think it is getting better). And, people who don't like a topic can simply skip it.

Sorry Dave, couldn't resist. I do agree with you, though. I have learned more here than anywhere else in all my time collecting. A wide and varied base of knowledge. A veritable plethora of information. A cornucopia of historical data. An eclectic blend of individuals from all walks of life and every level of collecting. image

    Cheers,

It is a good board, and I have learned some here. It would be nicer if the board operators would install an anti-troll feature...

We're doing great. We still have a couple of trolls... er a ...bugs to iron out but
for the main part discussions are interesting and on topic. There are still a lot
of threads I never open, but I figure the more threads there are the more likely
some are to be of interest.

The biggest opportunity for improvement is for us to try to get a little more infor-
mation in the titles. A title should give most observers a good idea of the content
of the thread so that the disinterested can skip it. No doubt many good threads
are ignored because those interested can't tell what it's about from the title.

  • Most importantly, we warn people about spending silly amounts of money on subtle differences in new pocket change. Just kidding! This site is a very valuable place. Coin collectors tend to be smart, educated, detailed, thoughtful, and good (non-criminal, anti-punk) people appreciative of the finer things. True, many of those finer things include appreciating lesbians, making profits, worshipping plastic, caring about football scores, and fighting amongst ourselves but that's what helps keep it real, baybay!

The sum of the various Forums here, with all their experienced and diverse members devoting their energy and time, is truly a valuable resource ranging on a wide variety of topics that include not only different coins, but many byproducts: history, politics, money, war, precious metals, geoography, technology, business, and human nature. I would come here just for the Open Forum for these reasons alone. It's a place where one can bring up coin and non-coin related issues and get some really good comments.

I agree this is a great place. I found when I first discovered it I would look several times a day to see what was going on. Couldn't wait to get home to kick on the computer and look. Now I'm a little calmer about it but enjoy it just as much.

The real question is "What is a troll?" One persons troll is another persons hero. Or is that one persons trash is anothers treasure? Or one persons troll is another persons trash? I guess it's really TRASH THE TROLLS!!!!!

  • This is the only board I have spent any time on. It has definitely helped me in learning about other coins I normally wouldn't pay attention to.

Its also an exchange of ideas, many different. It seems that some people think this supposed to be Sunday School or something.

No K, not a Sunday School, just a place where human beings should be accorded the same respect they deserve anywhere else they interact with others.

  • I love it here, and as long as I seperate the "good stuff" from the "junk," it is a great place to visit. I've learned to pick what makes sense to me here, ignore a great deal, and I have fun and I learn!

The good I've gotten from here FAR outweighs the petty, stupid arguing that we have to endure.

Edited to add the ways it has helped me: innumerable ways! As most of you know, I'm learning about coins in order to learn about my Dad's collection so that I can assist my family in disposing of the coins. It is a slow process, but I am enjoying it. The biggest and most visible way the board has helped me is in the resolution of the counterfeit $3 gold coin. But all in all, if it weren't for these boards and the internet, I would be completely lost.

    Thanks, folks!

    (Good thread, BigDave)
  • BigDave and Bear put it well. One improvement could be having a Flame War forum and Troll forum. You could have John Lennon singing " ... all we are saying is give peace a chance ... " in the background. It may not be 100% but it`s somewhere in the 90`s.

I think just about everybody here realizes and appreicates what can be learned here. There`s nothing wrong with debating points and counter-points of course. When it comes down to hitting below the belt then thats when people leave and some of them are the good ones. I`m not saying anything new just had to get it off my chest. Hopefully the good ones will come back and take the forefront again.
  • This is the only active forum I can find on the www. Others seem to move at a snail's pace. I enjoy this place, seems to be good info that floats around.
