Another trip to the Morgan Candy Shop - Or - How to bow out gracefully from Moderns

Ok - I hope that this doesn't tick my modernista bretheren off - I do still have a set of Kennedy's but - Knowing that a local coin store had a number of toned monster dollars available, and that they were going fast, I gave into temptation and took an assortment (boat load) of 1999-2002 proof sets and traded them in on 3 of the most beautiful dollars I have ever seen. Now, one thing I learned and is good for the modern fans - the 1999 and 2001 sets brought a nice chunk of change! But alas, these come but once in a blue moon. Enjoy, I'd like to hear your comments on them too.

Thanks

Frank

    Frank,

I think that third one is butt ugly and I'm deeply concerned that it's ugliness might be depressing you. Since I'm not prone to depression even in the face of such ugliness I will, out of the goodness of my heart, take it off your hands at full sheet.

Frank - If we are talking about Morgans then you did the right thing. I have always loved

toned Morgans. I regret selling my Gem PL a number of years ago. They had the irridescent

tone that only God and time can produce. It is ashame that we working folk always have to

sell something good to buy something good. That Russ is a swell guy, always there as

the good samaritan to save you anguish, by taking such ugly coins off your hand .image

I have but one thing to say to you Frank, "MY MY MY MY MY" Beautiful!!!!! image

"The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD GOD Almighty."
  • I like the top one a lot - even though I am not a toned fan. On the middle one, I think the guy got a little carried away with the Benz-O-Matic.

  • Frank,

No you're speaking my language -- really pretty toned dollars, nice job!

    Frank,

It was a good trade. They are pretty girls. I'm guessing the bowing out thing will happen when you trade them for pre-1836, but this is a healthy interim step.image

    So Don:

If the classic era and the modern era are separated by steam power - what's the era after steam power and the advent of electric power called? image

How about "the golden age of presidential coinage".image Nah, that wouldn't work with several series. Let me think......hey, how about "the base metals monetized era"......no, that's not too catchy. How about, "these are our last attempts before we issue brass slugs with numbers on them".....OK, I'm joking.

How about, "New Classics"....nah, "Classics Lite",......OK....really, "The coins of the 20th Century". There, that'll do.image

I like the one in the middle with the purple & blue face with the double crescent.
