can anacs be trusted?

i was looking on e-bay and saw a toned coin in a anacs holder but to me it looks AT to me are they good at figuring out what is and isn't AT or should i just stay away from them. I know they are an OK slabbing co. but is this somthing they are good at?

I think ANACS is very good at flushing out at coins

I don't know exactly but the colors on the back just don't look right. also the toning is to even on both sides usually there is more on on side than the other.

I have dealt with ANACS and ANACS coins for ten years. Sometimes we have dissagreements, but
we always work them out. The few dissagreements that I have had with them were over grading,
and those are rare. The coin in question has genuine toning. You can trust ANACS.

    P.S. ( I won't snipe that one from youimage

I can only speak from my own experience but I have always found ANACS to be a good service.

Having said that, just like any other service, I'm sure they have their fair share of crap in their holders.

The dime looks good. They tone that way from in the original Proof Set cases.
However this Peace is a good example of a coin that looks AT-looks like a blowtorch beauty and the white spot by IN GOD... looks like where the coin dr held it with a pair of pliers while he torched it.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

The dime looks find to me. I've seen that type of toning on a number of Proof coins from that era.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

As for the ANACS dime....I think it's legit toning myself...I trust ANACS
  • Im like the rest of you guys. The dime is real. However the 1922 peace dollar which dog97 has shown us looks AT all the way! I would pass that one by.

ANACS is excellent at detecting artificial toning and altered coins. I have had great luck buying ANACS coins and crossing them over to PCGS. I have crossed 15 of them, many toned. Here is the only coin that downgraded at PCGS, from ANACS MS65 to PCGS64, and it has vivid toning on the reverse. For the life of me, I still do not understand why PCGS only gave it a 64. Really doesn't matter, this coin is in my collection and it isn't for sale.

    K6AZ I have no problem understanding why your coin was a 64 @ pcgs & a 65 @ anacs. It's a borderliner high end 64 and anacs & pcgs doesn't grade exactly the same.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Dog, that coin is a mid range 65. I have hundreds of Morgans, and many PCGS 65s. 14 other ANACS coins crossed at the same grade. I really think ANACS gets a bum rap from a lot of people. That's OK, I will keep buying them at ~65% of greysheet.

Your picture sems to show a hit on the chin, a hit between star r5 and the hair, and some hits midway between E-P and the forehead and a hit on the neck extending into the field. There appears to be a good sized dig at an intersecting point in the hair from the corner of the eye and the front of the ear lobe. Small scuffs & ticks are ok on a 65 but these appear to be rather heavy as they show 2 or 3 reeds each so that's why I said 64.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • I don't think that ANACS gets the respect they deserve. I believe that they are one of the most consistent grading services I have used. They do a great job on varieties and their customer service has always has been great with me.

The two ANACS dimes I have tried crossing with NGC and PCGS ended up with one being BB at NGC for questionable color and the other Up-Graded at PCGS with the FB designation also added. All in all the ANACS coins I have owned have been quite nice.

BTW the Purple Toned Merc Dime that a couple of people around here use for thier Icon is a ANACS Coin I use to own. Why it was sold, the ex-owner is a Idiot.

The people at ANACs do more with varieties than the other services which is a plus. They are good when it comes to identifying artifical toning. Some of their graders will attend large shows and coins can be directly submitted and they are helpful. My biggest complaint is their economy service.
