What do you think of the ANA's redesigned "Numismatist"?

To me, it seems like they're pursuing a strategy of "less is more" -- that is, less substantive articles and more color. Being "colorized" and more of a magazine format are about the only improvements I can see.

If there are less substantive articles, it's because they aren't getting enough article submissions. I had a brief discussion with the editor while I was at the ANA Summer Seminar and she mentioned she'd love to be publishing more articles if she only had them.

I bet there are more than a few board members who would be qualified to write an article for the Numismatist, and it would be great to read them!

Havn't received it but it has to be an improvement - I left mine (the old version) in the waiting room, unread. It had little to offer......

I haven't gotten mine either...Hope the postal service hasn't lost it again...
I'm working on an article on the gold rush of Cripple Creek, Colorado. It should be finished this month and thus published in June or July hopefully...

I'm still waiting. I think my mailman is a coin collector, because my copy of Coin World and Numismatics News always arrive about a week and a half after the "mailed on" date.

Here is what I think:

1.Positives.
-Nice magazine format, pages easier to handle, less " continued here on such and such a page,etc"
Nice wordsearch puzzle added, Coin World and others can learn from this. It would be nice to
see a crossword also.


2.Negatives.
-Poor quality paper. Probably non-archival magazine paper, I save my copies. They won't hold
up as long.
-Still an ad in there from Hagar the Horrible.

I've always been disappointed with the Numismatist's content, but appearance-wise, I like the "new look". Content-wise, I still find it lacking. I also find Numismatic News "chock full of ads" too. Really though, not much "news" is happening; there needs to be some groundbreaking discoveries in design or minting. Otherwise, it just re-hashing old news over and over again.
