NOT STIFFED BY A BOARD MEMBER - GOLDENPONY UPDATE

OuthaulOuthaul Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well, do I feel like the proverbial dips-hit! Goldenpony (Jim Adams) had a death in the family and was away in Illinois. I just received an e-mail from him. My instincts told me to hang on a little longer and I didn't. As I said in a previous post, with my luck my patience will run out and I'll say or do something I'll regret and just at that point the answer will become clear and I'll feel just awful. Well, now I feel just awful. Next time I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Cheers,

Bob

  • Thats to bad, and kind of sad that someone on this forum would stiff another member.

Sorry, Bob. You were a very patient and good sport. It probably wont help but it certainly wouldn't hurt, to let PCGS / collector's universe know about it. Perhaps he submits coins and if so, could be spoken to. image
  • That sucks!

Did he get your cash or a coin, how much?

Sorry to hear the bad news.

    Thanks

Sorry to hear that. I still hold out hope for you, but maybe that's a fool's hope.

    anyone live close to him???
if he were near me I'd be happy to pay him a visit for you!

    no phone for him??

I looked at my stuff and aparently I bought/sold something to/from him in the past without any troubles.
  • OuthaulOuthaul Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yep, jp, he already has my stuff.

Oh well, live and learn. But I fefuse to paint all with the same brush. As a matter of fact, I had two beautiful classic commems waiting for me when I returned home today from Orlando. I now have a Connecticut PCGS MS-64 and a Cincinnati NGC MS-64, from another board member. Gotta love those classic commems!

    Cheers,

    Bob
  • BOB,

I knew it was The Golden Pony all the time and I even hinted at it. I just hope that he has a suitable explanation when he pops up again. I am forever an eternal optimist, and always look for the best in mankind. Even though I get tested more than I care to offer here.

Ya dun good. And Hope that Golden pony will clear the air. If anyones name is worth a $100 coin, I doub't that I want to be part of that persons life.

    Happy New Year!

  • Damn, I miss ole Cob, with his sick dad, Had to sell the pick up truck, had some great deals for us, but he needed to get his teeth fixed. Talk about carnival.

  • Bulldog--I think you have your members mixed up. Cob was a guy who caused alot of folks to get stirred up. He would talk about some of the other board members and give them a hard time. Cob knows his coins and at times even enjoyed discussing coins. The individual who took money from some of the board members was Hendrixkat. All the while, he was selling and BUYING items on Ebay. Some of the other board members here gave donations to a Point of Contact who in turn sent the money to Kat. When it was determined what happened, Cob got onto the individual taking the money and said that he was involved with the scam from Kat.

If I'm not mistaken, Cob was one of the first individuals to auction off some coins for charities. Some of the older guys here should be able to give you better details if you want them.

That was HendrixKat with the dental scam, not cobb.

I did not get stiffed, but...

I won an auction for what I $75, I received a roll of quarters instead of the series of mint sets I won. I wrote him about the mix up and he replied but I still don't have a good feeling about sending the roll of quarters back without him putting my money in an escrow account. I am I being too picky?

I've had offers from other board members to do everything from hunting him down to bringing me his liver on a stick.image I appreciate these gestures, but I think it's a lost cause. I'll still hold out a smidge of hope, but that's about it.

Bob, I am deeply sorry for Jim and his family.

Please don't be hard on yourself, however - I believe that you were very fair and patient. The fact that it turned out the way it did, does not mean you did the wrong thing under the circumstances known to you at the time. For all you knew, you were offering potential protection to others. I'm confident that things will be fine between you and Jim and between Jim and the forum members.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I think you reacted reasonably. The only reason I would have not expected a response from Goldenpony after four or five weeks would have been his death or incapacitation. How did he finally get word to you about the death and being out of town?

    pmh:

He e-mailed me this morning and explained all. He's backed up right now between answering for other deals, e-mails, PM's, etc.

I'm sure this will all turn out ok....but...in the early 1970's I won some coins from an advertiser in a mail bid sale. Being young and believing that everyone was honest I sent money for coins that I won at less than wholesale prices. Everything turned out to be one grade or more off. After I returned all the coins the run-around started. After a few weeks of not being able to reach Mr. Jones of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida I was told by his assistant Lee that he had a heart attack and that it would take time to sort things out. After a few more months of occasional contact and strange behavior I no longer heard from them...nor did the postal authorities. I'm sure they packed up to conduct their scams elsewhere.

I had a similiar experience with an eBay dealer bout 2 years ago. Check cleared but no coin no contact no nothing. So I started sending a strongly worded but polite email every day and when he saw I wasn't going to just roll over he started answering me back but still gave me the runaround. He said he was in the hospital for cancer surgery. But he still was able to cash my check, list other auctions, and attend FUN at the same time. I felt my hind leg being pulled................
I finally got my coin bout 2 months after the auction but if I hadn't made any waves I woulda got scrued.

I concur. I also believe you did the correct thing. You allowed plenty of time, solicited advice from others, and finally made it public only after traversing all avenues of communication without a reply. Anyway, I'm glad to see that it looks to finally go well with your transaction.
