has anyone bought anything from this place before?? how is their shipping prices/custumer service?

link

does anyone understand this?
All orders will be charged a reasonable shipping charge. Registered mail will be used on orders exceeding $600.00 and to order destinations outside of the United States. The shipping charges include postage, insurance, materials, time to pack and wrap packages, time to fill out forms, time to drive to the bank vault to pick up coins and then to the post office, time waiting in line, $0.34 per mile driving, and a $20,000.00 automobile replacement expense. When lost packages must have a claim filed, the expenses add to our yearly shipping expenses, so we have come up with what we feel are very reasonable charges ($USA).

  • I've bought one or two things from them. The shipping wasn't outrageous...I think it was like $3 for two slabs, I don't remember exactly.
  • I've made several purchases from Cheapslabs.com. Every one of my experiences with them have been excellent, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

BTW, read their shipping "policy" with a sense of humor. That is how they intended it, and their shipping charges have always been reasonable. I think you would enjoy doing business with them (at least I did).
  • thanks JR i thought it was a joke but i found this site while surfing the web and i didn't know if this person was joking or if it was some nutcase that charges $20,000 shipping.
  • I have dealt with Alan a few times and have been very pleased with my purchases, which have mainly been $10-15 modern Kennedys and such. They had a mixup and sent my shipment to another collector who forwarded it to me and Alan called me at work to let me know what happened and we talked for over 20 minutes about the name of the website and how they got started. Also returned one coin and explained to him why and what I look for in the moderns, he got a nice replacement out to me before I had time to ship the other back. I would recommend them, they have some nice variety slabs too, especially RPM Lincolns and low grade type coins.
  • No worries mbbiker.

If I didn't know someone and they made a statement about their shipping policy like that, I'd tend to be worried too (lacking a recommendation by someone else). image

You can cherry pick some good coins from their site (for a good price I might add).
  • Sounds like he was having a bad day, with the Christmas rush and all. We've all had days like that. Lord knows I've had my share. I've bought from him in the past and have been pleased. Honestly don't remember anything about the shipping costs so it must not have been too outrageous. Oh, I do remember, we are in the same state (Tennessee) so he charged me 9.25% sales tax. Ouch, but that's the law. Will have it shipped to a friends house in Mississippi, next time.

He must have read that thread the other day where all the aspiring businessmen tried to justify high shipping charges. image

I've probably purchased a dozen coins from him over the last few years, and always been pleased. Once you learn to read his scans, he sells some pretty nice stuff. Shiping was always reasonable.

Sound's to me like they want you to pay for their car, then pay them to drive it image.

I have ordered a bunch of coins from them, never had a problem, great service and never noticed a shipping charge, so it couldnt be very high.

  • where are the scans?
  • Indianheadman:

With cheap slabs like that, it is probably not worth the time or effort to scan. It saves them time and you money, especially if the inventory is constantly being sold.

I have dealt with Alan Sayers in the past and every transaction has been very pleasant. The
shipping charges are very low and if you look hard enough , you can find real bargains.

    Happy holidays,
    Brian.
  • Only one transaction to date, very nice golden toned 1883 N/C nickel in MS-63. (PCI holder) Lack of scans deters many buyers I'm sure but the descriptions seem quite fair, pointing out the faults of the coins with problems in detail. Plus, I'm sure you could return them without any grief. I will buy more from them, very fast shipping and reasonable rates.

  • I had never visited their website and used your link to take a look. I searched on Halves and more than 50% of their coins are NTC graded coins.

A big majority of the remainder are ANACS coins.
  • I have had numerous dealings with Alan and his partner Dave Humphries who only does shows primarily in KY, OH, TN and surrounding states. These people have always been fair to deal with.

Hmm, an interesting selection for my 2500th post! Anyway, now that I think of it, I bet these guys show up at my local coin show here in Knoxville. I may go next Saturday (not this Saturday) just to see if he's there.

    Coinshunter,

I've purchased quite a few from Dave too. His ebay handle is Coinhumphries. Both are good sellers.

He doesn't go to the monthly show in Knoxville. Said he only attends the big yearly show, last we talked. I can't afford the 10% sales tax anyways, so buy my cheap slabs out of state now (and just about everything else I can). No wonder there are no jobs around here image
