1907 Indian Head Cent -PICS- Red reverse with rainbow coloring

I received this coin today and was wondering if it's a common coin with this type of toning or not. The reverse is mostly red with some blues and violets. It's brown inside and outside the wreath. The obverse is mostly brown with a touch of red on the cheek and feathers. Would you send something like this to be graded if you knew you were going to sell it soon?

  • Looks more like environmental damage to me. As it's a lower grade common date coin, I wouldn't bother with it...it's only worth a buck or two at the most.

Yes, this coin has been cleaned with some sort of metal cleaner, like Brasso. The toning you see on the reverse is a residue from the cleaner. I remember seeing a coin that looked like this after I fooled with it when I was kid, which is more years ago that I would like to admit.

You pictures are great. I wish I could get them "hosted and posted" like that!

  • By the way, there's not "Red" on that coin.

  • That 1907 is most definitely not a candidate for grading. If I were the owner I would spend that coin as one cent and hope that some kid finds it in circulation.

Received - as a gift? Purchase? Agree with above - wouldn't throw good money after bad by having it graded. Nice pics....
