Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. Bill - I agree it looked like a slider - diminished luster in the fields, but still enough to be called MS these days and very clean, thus the AU63 grade.
Second one looks like a 64 (or better). But tough to tell without being able to roll it and see the cartwheel.
Knowing nothing about gold but trying to learn....guess a 64. I guessed a 63 on the first but, at this point, I'm sure no one would belive me! Just got home from the relatives and couldn't put in a guess before you gave the answer.
