What coins did you get for Christmas?

Just wondering, and what did you think about them?

  • I was at my local shop this morning, picking up my very very snappy MS63 1892CC Morgan. image (just thought I would drop that in)

A woman was there with a handwritten list standing out the counter near me. She was known to the owner and they were kibitzing about her husbands quest to complete his Morgan collection. I had just cherry picked a complete set they had brought in this week - so I knew they had a nice supply, including a big inventory and a couple of large boxes of Morgan slabs.

She went down the list - a few CC's, an MS63 1894, and toyed with the 93S, only backing off of it because of the low grade.

We got to talking and she was delighted to have been able to get hese coins for her husband.

I couldn't resist asking "since you're here, would you like to get married for ten or twenty minutes?"

  • I got a safe, 3 coin books, a 176-1976 silver proof set and a $10 dollar gold indian
    image
  • Since my wife knows nothing of coins, I shopped for myself - I got a set of 83 and 84 Olympic dollars really cheap I thought, and a nice trio of 1921 Morgans (PDS). The 1885CC Morgan that I showed earlier was my January purchase pushed up a little so it doesn't count image

    Merry Christmas to all!

My wife (with the help of scr53) got me a 1/**** Washington 1938 PCGS MS66 from David Lawrence (it's up on my Registry Set), and my mother sent me an 1889-0 MS62 Morgan!

What a swell family! (Glad I was good this year).

    Merry Christmas to all!
  • Gotta love the wifey. She splurged on a pair of morgans:

    1896-O pcgs ms62
    1882-O/S pcgs ms61

    Cheers!

    Got Morgan?
  • My wife gave me some more circulated Morgan and Peace dollars that had found their way to the bank. What was even neater than her getting them for a dollar each, was that while I was checking the date/mintmarks, I noticed that the 1882-O's mintmark looked different. A quick check under the scope and I found this, which I believe is the O/S Vam 3. image

My son bought me a swing-armed magnifier with a reveal bulb. Now that I can finally see my coins, I'd like to apologize to PCGS for all the snide remarks! LOL

Seriously, I can't believe how much easier proper illumination makes spotting hairlines. While I was goofing yesterday, I couldn't help myself. I did buy one numismatic lottery ticket. $12 from a collector who doesn't sell many coins, and bought the set new in 71. Santa, dcam the reverse if you will. Merry Christmas and happy holidays all!

Nothing coin related here. I prefer it be that way. I am so specialized in what I do, nobody could buy anything for me that would be something useful to add to the collection. Furthermore, the "gift" would be absorbed into the too-many I have already, and wouldn't mean much by itself. I'd rather not receive coins for Christmas - leave that and my birthday for things that people get with meaning to them as well as to me.
