Yeah yeah I know it has some ticks on the face and that's pushing it for a 65 and it has some spots by the date and star L-2 but man look at that frost! Text

Sure do! Some of my recent untoned ones include a 1891-O in MS63, 1900-O and 1902-O in MS65.

Even though it doesn't say PL, it looks pretty good to me. Since you already pointed out some of the marks and dip spots I won't say anymoreimage Nice looking coin.

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Boy that is nice! Good strike, almost no break in the frost. It`s just a beautiful coin.

Hey thanks for the good words.
Hardly see any white coins posted here anymore.
That seller's coins look a lot like his pictures so I think I'll be happy with it.

    I concur with fccloud:

    Make Mine Blast White!

Very, very nice. If I had not picked up an MS63 79-S over the weekend, I would be kicking myself for not having seen this.

Yes I do! Many of my Morgans are Blast White and I love them. I will be happy to take this lonely little coin off your hands any time and it will feel right at home in my collection.

    Very nice Morgan!
  • I was eyeing that one as well, but decided to hold off until the Christmas bills come inimage

  • Dog,

    That is sweeeet!

BTW, no one has really given a good answer as to how the devices on the dies were so heavily etched. Were they pickled then the fields polished like on the proofs?

    Just curious.
  • Dog, that's the guy who sold me those toned '84-CC's awhile back (including the crescent). Nice coin.

    Hey Dog,

MBCoin is doing allright from the forum. Talk about a blast white, and a '79 S, here is my acquisition:

    Blast White '79-S

I looked at the coin you got, the '80-S and another two sided CAM '79-S he had, but, you know I'm defenseless against the snipe in my old age. image

Then I got this O/CC earlier in the month from Barry Stuppler; I thought it was the VAM9, but I think it may be a VAM7A - which I am challenging, if Oxman will respond to my two week old email. The obverse doesn't match VAM7A, but the reverse does with the following exceptions: the "90" of the date is doubled, and although the OMM is as described for VAM 7 and 7A, the motto is also doubled and not mentioned in any documentation. I guess I can forward the non-answered email to Leroy for an opinion, that is if he chooses to answer. I'm beginning to wonder if the fact that I haven't joined the SSDC, maybe they just won't respond to attribution requests.

    Anyway, my 1900-O/CC

Yeah that's a really nice & clean 79 there Gilbert.
I remember when you first posted the O/CC.
Last time I talked to Leroy he makes you send return postage when you send him a coin other than that he isn't much on attributing without coin in hand.

  • Very nice!!! Hell might even be worth resubmitting that one. That smudge looks like something a quick dip wouldn't take care of. Maybe if your lucky it would come back a 65-PL, and if your real lucky a 66-PL. I guess that's something you will have to see when you get the coin.

White Morgans are one of the few areas of the market that has been quite over the past couple of years. Toned Morgans are very hot. Given that I'd say the white Morgans are fairly or undervalued. Toned Morgans, especially the AT examples, are overpriced or WAY overpriced.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I agree toned coins are way overpriced right now. Blast white is Best. Nice coin dawg.

That's a sharp looking Morgan. I like em white, or toned. I look at the strike, then the luster and hits (and their location). Toning is never a consideration for buying or not buying a coin for me. However if any Silver coin that is old is completely blast white, I would have to be suspicious. This coin is white, but not what I would call blast white. I guess a good thread might be a definition of "blast white" as opposed to "white" coins. mdwoods

  • My turn to show off........just picked her up tonight....

1879-S (notice i sniped MYSELF. i put in a backup bid with an auto sniper, didn't realize I had it set to my other account, extra $5, heh)

Same seller sold me another beauty a few days ago.....if you thought people paid stupid money for toned dollars...check out the greysheet bid for this one...(I paid the premium for the cameo, extremely rare with this date)...1904-O

    Happy Holidays everyone.

  • Nice pair of dollars Kyle - I'm surprised that 79S didn't rate at least a prooflike!

    Dog, Gilbert & Kyle

They're all very nice coins. Who can argue that a big, blast white Morgan with hardly a ding isn't a beautiful coin. Add some frost and you've got a masterpiece (and that's from a guy that's partial to toned coins image).
