I must be too hard on my coins or PCGS is getting softer for the holidays. Submitted Ecomony on December 2nd. Nice turnaround time!
COINS My Est. Grades PCGS Grades
1 1981-S 1C Type 1 PR63 PR68DC
2 1981-S 5C Type 1 PR65C PR68DC
3 1981-S 10C Type 1 PR68DC PR69DC
4 1981-S 25C Type 1 PR65C PR68DC
5 1973-S 25C PR67DC PR68DC
6 1973-S 25C PR69DC PR69DC
7 1979-S 50C Type 1 PR67DC PR69DC
8 1979-S 25C Type 1 PR69DC PR69DC
9 1979-S 5C Type 1 PR69DC PR69DC
All the 81s were submitted thinking they were Type IIs. They were hazy and toned and I'm surprised at the grades they got. I guess I got to look at the mintmarks harder. I know type II SBAs surprisingly. Just got one back on a different submission as a PR68DCAM - all came from the same set.
I'm packing up my next shipment and sending it out the day after Christmas.
Just thought I'd share.
Michael

I do think PCGS is being more consistent these days.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

Nice results. I was quite interested in your statement regarding the 81's aas being submitted as type-2's. I had the same result with a 81 Kennedy lately. I have compared my coin's mint mark at 30X stereoscope with one of my friends PCGS 81-S type-2 and with the mintmark on my type-2 Lincoln and they are very much the same. They for darn sure are not a type-1. I am going to take them to a show next year where PCGS is present and see what they say.

Does anyone else know of a potential Type III?
As for my turnaround times, I don't know anyone PCGS, but for some reason lawyers always seem to get better service My doctor always says to his staff to give me the "Litigation Prevention Special Treatment"

I also believe that there are more than two types of mintmarks for the 1981 proof coins, or at least a variation of the type-2. My coin has a mintmark very very similar to the type-2, but the PCGS senior grader called it a type-1 because "the type-2 is flat" and mine was somewhat rounded, even though it does not in any way resemble the type-1 mintmark shape. This is very confusing to me, that is why I plan to take all of these coins to PCGS. I will take them to Baltimore in July if I can't get to them sooner.
Regarding the Type 1 vs. Type 2, I posed the question on the forum a while back. Members were kind enough to point me to some very educational links that had nice, clear, large photos of both varieties on the Susan B. I studied them intently, and then got out my 1979, 1980 and 81 proof sets. Two of them were very clearly Type 1s, and the other sure looked like the Type 2 I had been studying. I made a bunch of comparisons, and confidently submitted it but it ultimately came back as Type 1.
Beartracks42: It would be great if you post the results of your Baltimore show experience.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

Then where the hell are my coins that were submitted on 11/19? Where are other people's coins that were submitted earlier than that?
Do submissions actually go in order anymore?
