While looking through (where else) ebay, I fell upon this set of coins.

Why is it so diffecult to put a coin in the holder straight?image

Yes, Rotts, especially on the 70s.

  • What is PCGS's policy on this. Will they re-holder at no cost if it is crooked or do they still charge. I have several. It doesn't bother me as I can turn the coin in my hand if I want to see it straight. But I am sure that if I ever want to sell these that it will be percieved as a negative.

  • PCGS gives you a choice:

Option 1 - crooked in the holder
Option 2 - straight in the holder with prominent thumb print on obverse

Let's face it, if you want it straight they gotta handle the coin! And if it's after lunch when the holdering is done you may get some Taco Bell sauce on the coin too.

I end up sending in for reholdiring a fair number I plan to keep: rotated, scratched plastic, etc. If PCGS has a policy on it I'm unaware, thay haven't volunteered to do them free so far.

There is always the chance that the holder would explode and they wouldn't have to handle the coin as much-----BigE

I have never cracked open a PCGS slab, not that it's never going to happen but aren't there 3 parts to the slab that includes a plastic ring of some sort that fits around the coin. If that is true, isn't it a matter of pushing the ring onto the coin and then it's placed between the two sides and glued together. I could be wrong but this is how I think it's done or should be done.
