... or two, would you:
1 - Crack them and have them certified
2 - Sell/trade them as is on the BS&T board
3 - Put them up on Ebay
4 - Hang on and hope for greater increase

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are for these little goodies.

    5. Hang onto it because it's part of a series and worry about it's value another day

Remember, these would be spares, there is already one for a full set placed aside.

Oh, OK. What did with my last spare is give it to mom as a birthday present. She's a collector, too. image
  • Sell, their dropping fast! I have one on Ebay right now! Mintage is in 800,000, not 300,000 range!

I always keep one set a year regardless of the economic situation. That's the collector in me.

As for selling, I put them out as a dealer, and eventually they will sell at the current levels.

It interesting however, if the market melting. If it is a lot of people are going to get burned if they turn out to be like 2000 sets, which wholesale for less than the issue price.

Hmm. Interesting question. I have two spares.

And absolutely no experience selling modern proof sets, which are outside my usual arena.

  • My comment, I'd hang on to them. I have 100 sets as investment and plan to begin selling some. Yes, mintage was higher than originally reported but the sales were more sporadic after the concern over the 2000 issue. So, I think there are fewer hoards, which should keep prices current and slowly rise. Look at ebay sales, they are steadily rising and there are fewer for sale then there were a couple weeks ago, but that could be the holiday and people don't want to deal with ebay this time of year. Anyway, just my comment.

  • Sold my spare to a fellow board member at a low price that gave him a bargain and still allowed me a more
than reasonable profit. Two happy collectors with one set. Pretty good deal.

Bought 25 sets, sold eleven at $36,seven at $55,and have seven to trade.I sure like Draped Bust Halfs.

  • I have four. Cracked one for the Album collection, have one in my proof set lockup and have two in limbo. With a mintage of 800,000, it is still lower than 99, and will be a driving force in the assemblage of full four coin per year quarter collections. Lowest mintage = highest possible number of these sets.

If anybody is wanting one, my local shop has 65 on hand.
