Lucy- You took the words right out of my mouth! Stunning and wickedly beautiful. NO coin should be allowed to look this good!

Yeah, they are nice and colorful "in the image", but I couldn't bring myself to go $1885 for a 63 and a 62 1955 Half. JMO

I'm with you Gilbert. The toning isn't even on both sides and this guy is asking 1885.00 for two coins that are bid at $22.00.image I can admire pretty toning, but this stuff is getting out of hand.

lets see bid is around....... what 25.00?......and i can buy it now for....what? 1885.00.....wow! what am i waiting for? wait a minute, didnt i just see a really nice draped bust dollar, graded pcgs for the same price?

I don't want to seem like too much of smart Alec, but if you can find a nice Bust Dollar for $1,885.00 I'd jump on it. All of the coins that I have seen at that price level recently had MAJOR problems. Of course none of that was mentioned on the slab if it was certified unless it was an ANACS slab.

    Art work guys.

Ever gone to a art museum or auction and watched paintings sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars that in your opinion looked like a 5 year old painted? Same goes with nicely toned coins. Colors and patterns make them rarer than the average. Is it worth the premium? To the collector that likes it……yes.

Shake your heads and wonder but remember the flip side is that everybody collects what they want and like. Enjoy the hobby.

  • Lucy,
I started a thread on double mint sets about 4 days asking for opinions on breaking up the double mint sets to slab the gems and or Monster toned coins or keeping them intact, one of the coin's I was specifically referring to is a 57 Halve that I would put good money on that it would grade a 67 FBL at PCGS, the toning is very similar to the obverse on the half above, but even better, not a bag mark in the fields or on the devices that I can see with a 10 loop, if someone will pay this kind of money for a MS62 or MS63 with this kind of toning which is awsome, then I have a small gold mine in this particular franklin. But, and a big but, will someone pay this kind of money for a monster franklin, if so my mind will be made up and I will definitely break up this 57 Mint Set and send them in. I just hit a good ole Georgia White Tail deer with my 67 Mustang and destroyed the frontend so selling one of these halves would fix me right up in getting my stang back on the road.

Toners, if your half grades ms67fbl with that type of toning you may have a 5k plus coin on your hands.

The Frankies that ToneKiller is auctioning are KILLERS!!!! And I think they are worth it. I have seen his toned coins in person and I still
brag to my friends about his killer rainbowed lincolns.

  • I LOVE Franklins as well, but they are hiedous, and the Buy It Now amount is a joke for two coins worth about $50 if you liked ugly toning, gouges and bag marks. Everything is out of hand for the holidays. Sellers are all hoping to find a pigeon. $20 slot cars are up with $125 Buy it Now amounts. HA!! Morons.....

  • No, Lucy, the sellers with assnine Buy It Now amounts. There beyond clown....

Hey, if you lik'em, buy 'em. I'd hold my money for a much nicer sample. My Frankie collection is the slowest set of all I'm assembling. I want them PERFECT and goregeous and at the right price. Not very easy to do at all....
  • I don't understand how this thread has lasted so long.

After all... they're only Franklins. image
