Ever gone to a art museum or auction and watched paintings sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars that in your opinion looked like a 5 year old painted? Same goes with nicely toned coins. Colors and patterns make them rarer than the average. Is it worth the premium? To the collector that likes it……yes.
Shake your heads and wonder but remember the flip side is that everybody collects what they want and like. Enjoy the hobby.

I started a thread on double mint sets about 4 days asking for opinions on breaking up the double mint sets to slab the gems and or Monster toned coins or keeping them intact, one of the coin's I was specifically referring to is a 57 Halve that I would put good money on that it would grade a 67 FBL at PCGS, the toning is very similar to the obverse on the half above, but even better, not a bag mark in the fields or on the devices that I can see with a 10 loop, if someone will pay this kind of money for a MS62 or MS63 with this kind of toning which is awsome, then I have a small gold mine in this particular franklin. But, and a big but, will someone pay this kind of money for a monster franklin, if so my mind will be made up and I will definitely break up this 57 Mint Set and send them in. I just hit a good ole Georgia White Tail deer with my 67 Mustang and destroyed the frontend so selling one of these halves would fix me right up in getting my stang back on the road.

The Frankies that ToneKiller is auctioning are KILLERS!!!! And I think they are worth it. I have seen his toned coins in person and I still
brag to my friends about his killer rainbowed lincolns.

Hey, if you lik'em, buy 'em. I'd hold my money for a much nicer sample. My Frankie collection is the slowest set of all I'm assembling. I want them PERFECT and goregeous and at the right price. Not very easy to do at all....
After all... they're only Franklins.
Santa, bring me the three pies, the horn and the seltzer spray bottles!
