Typos/spelling errors - would you want to know?

I occasionally make spelling mistakes/typos here and I have evidence that I am not the only board member who does so. Sometimes they just look sloppy, but other times, they can be pretty darned entertaining (I wont give the particulars here ).
My question is - if you are an "offender" would you like to be told? To further complicate the matter, if your answer was "yes" but you don't have your P.M. feature activated and can only be told publicly in a post, would you still want to know? Just curious.

On second thought, I guess if the typo was a date, it could be important - I might ask for a clarification in that case.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I will go back and edit once in a while. But some of us are not used to typing all the time and maybe used to being on a construction site or something. But still collect coins. And communicate the best we can. JMO
stman - I can certainly go along with your sentiments. I do most of my typing with 2 fingers!
If I really cared what my post looked like I would c&p it to my Word Processor and run a spell check first.
If I`m having a hard time figuring out what somebody is trying to say, more often then not, somebody has already responded and I try to follow the responses to get the just of the topic. So typos don`t bother me. Now what to do about those darn fingerprints...........
Just know... if it's AGC and above 70... it IS NOT A TYPO!!!

I know you are asking a serious question. A practical improvement would be to add a "spellcheck" to the message board.
On the other hand, when a board member puts his or her's auction in a message to discuss good and bad points, absolutely discuss spelling and/or typos.
Joe.
Atleast chose a different font to distinguish your post from others in your reply.
Ok I vented.
Cam40. How do you get the IText to work?
I do it by first highlighting the desired post,right-click it,copy. Then when repling and pasteing this text, chose the slanted I and right-click in the given field and now choose the paste option and whah lah. You,ve italicized your neighbors post within your own.
I type for a living (software engineer) and my spelling is horrible, but 99.9% of the time, it really doesn't matter.

To turn this into a semi-coin thread, I'll send a 1959-D Washington in an NGC MS 65 T holder (basically pure white despite the T) to anyone who correctly guesses what I believe to be the most common spelling mistake on the boards.

Joe.
I type fast with alot of errors that I try to go back and catch, also lots of coffee usually on board, so I know I let errors get through, a PM would be nice.

But half the time I catch a mistake after I've posted it, I just leave it alone. Something about the edit button draws suspicion.
Personally I would like to know, because I pride myself on my spelling and use of grammar. It doesn't really bother me to see spelling errors from other people though. As someone else pointed out, this is a coin board and not English 101. We all come from different walks of life, and for the most part, they're not secretarial.

P.S. To wayneherndon, is it when people spell "the" "teh"?
Edited to fix my mis-spelled word, how embarrassing! Thanks Petescorner and tjkillian!

p.s. Grammar is not spelled "grammer"

Yes, and hopefully by some smarta$$. I tease others, and I expect to be teased in return. However, I would probabaly be careful of who I was ragging on. mdwoods

It's kind of a bummer when you post a thread and the only replies you get are about your spelling, so I would prefer to get a PM.
Wayne - I think another one thats right up there is the use of "to" instead of "too".

Sometimes they just look sloppy, but other times, they can be pretty darned entertaining (I wont give the particulars here ). May I vote for my favorite? When the board member called the other board member a "maroon" it had me rolling on the floor. With all the responses that thread generated I'm sure everyone knows the correct spelling now. You must have a thick skin to participate here and you learn much more than just about coins. I say if you feel like correcting someone do it.
I thought they were being whimsical, kind of like how Bugs Bunny used to always say, "What a maroon!" I didn't know that was a mis-spelled "moron!"
edited to correct spelling! So, I've become the second person to misspell a word in a spelling thread! LOL

You're in luck, mdwoods! - this "smarta$$", who is being "careful" about who he's "ragging on" says probably is spelled "probably" and not "probabaly".
On another point (not as much fun, I'm afraid) - part of what I was getting at in my question, was misuse of certain words and not just typos. For instance, I once used "complement", by mistake instead of "compliment" (not even spell check would help me there!) and often see "effect" and "affect" (incorrectly) used interchangeably.
Any flames?
but for me i cant fix, correct, change, convert,................... anyone but myself

The only time I can see it being a problem is if the editing somehow causes later replies to that message to become moot or seemingly senseless. Even then, I think the poster has that right.
This is another one of those threads that has many twists, turns and morphs - I like that and hope others do, as well.
Well, of course I knew that. I was just checking on you guys!!

I guess I'm just old and dumb.
I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

I usually type rather quickly and don't always proof read my posts (and sometimes when I do proof read, it doesn't matter). I do edit my posts when I see a mistake, but I usually note at the bottom of the thread that I edited it 'cause I can't spell.
