Praise for the ANA

I've not been too happy with the ANA for cuddling with ACG, but I must say their library is first rate!

I e-mailed a request to borrow two obscure books on medals, and I got a response within 15 minutes! Both volumes are expensive, so it's nice to be able to borrow them first before deciding whether to ask the used book sellers to find them for me.

Hats off to the ANA Library! Now if only the leadership would clean up their acts...

  • Shiro, There is a new ANA President now and a new Executive Director that has been hired. We can't put the blame on them now for something a prior officer or employee did.

I agree- they are top notch... I had my books ASAP.. even ones where all I could do is give a broad topic... Excellent people over there... one of the librarians even offered to write a recommendation for my scholarship after my paper was done image

That's good, Cameron. Things are looking up!

If I can ever get my book on 20 cent pieces under way, the ANA Library may prove invaluable in aiding my research. So far I've just gone through Congressional records, but a time will come when I'll need to see what others have written about the series.

    Shiro,
I am waiting for your book. Are you planning to cover varieties (suppose so, since such a small series).

I guess I'll have to cover varieties, but all my research so far has been in the history and legislation regarding the coin. The historical background will probably be fairly extensive.

  • Come gather 'round Shiro wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon, you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth saving
Then you better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

  • I'm trying in my own mind to justify joining the ANA. I have no heartburn with them...I just don't see the benefits, short of getting access to their library. I don't get real excited about their monthly magazine, which I can see thru my coin clubs...I don't necessarily want direct access to NGC...

Can somebody tell me other benefits they've found, shot of being a rah rah organization supporting the hobby....

That ACG picture is scaryimage They all ought to put on paisley shirts and beads...

Mostly for discounts on good movies like the counterfeit detection, grading, and AT.

Shiro's hit on my main reason for joining a few years ago. Access to their library is well worth the price of membership. All of the rest of that stuff is of no value to me.

  • I was a member for awhile and the only reason was for access to the Library. I've been thinking about joining again. I'd like to take the correspondance courses and it is much cheaper if you are a member.

I laugh everytime I see that picture! Does anyone remember who made it?
