2003 silver eagles from Littleton

Littleton Coin is advertising 2003 Silver Eagle Dollars "at our cost" of 7.95 each and free shipping. I have my doubts about their cost being 7.95 but is this an ok deal or can they be obtained cheaper on ebay?

I doubt that $7.95 is their cost. ($6.50-$6.95 is going retail rate) They do put it in some nice packaging with specs and fun facts if you are into that. If you are buying just one the free shipping makes it a good deal.

I will warn you that Littleton is very high priced and I am sure that this is a come -on ad. Read the fine print as I am quite sure they are going to send you additional coins for review. Might be a charge to send them back.
  • They run this 'come on ad' every year at this time. Like FatMan said they are high priced and they want to reel you into their coin junk appoval service.

  • I purchased 5 1997's from then in 97 at $7.50 ea.I had 3 graded and came back MS68.I still have 2 I plan on sending out soon. They also give you some extras.I received a very good looking 64 Rosie and a few other coins. They will only allow you to purchase 5.I do not know what ad you were looking or what restrictions they put on it.The holders are pretty nice.

HERE wants $8.00 for priority shipping. Is that for 1 or for 20 or both?

  • I wouldnt order one Silver Eagle at $6.15 and I wouldnt recommend anyone else order less than a roll either! $8.00 is not bad for a roll of Dollars! They do negotiate, I got them to take $128 with shipping, thats $6.00 a coin! Silver has moved up though, the site may not be updated!

I don't usually do biz with Littleton Coin. However, I recently bought their 2002 SAE special over the internet. Limit was 5 so I bought 5 under my name and 5 under my wife's. Free shipping was included. Here's how it went:

    Both shipments arrived
    Opened packages
    SAE's nicely packaged

    Now here's the kicker...

COINS ON APPROVAL INCLUDED IN PACKAGE!

As anyone who has ever dealt with LC the coins were real common junk at exorbitant prices

    War Nickel - VF
    CT State Qtr - UNC
    Steel Penny - UNC
2001 SAE - UNC (this was the only good one)

    TOTAL FOR APPROVAL COINS: $21.10

Got on the dog n' bone to LC for both shipments. They were very nice, but they lost on this one. See...when you place your order on the internet they don't tell you that it comes with the approval stuff. You never asked for it so, legally, you don't have to pay for it and are not obligated to send it back. When I told her this, she agreed and removed me from the list.

    Cheers,

    Bob

I usually only order 1 coin just for my SAE set. I don't buy silver as bullion. ( I am really not an investor, I am a collector ) I'll probably end up at my local dealer and buy 1 from him and save the shipping.

Do they still sign up new customers for their approval service without their permission?

If your into Silver Eagles, I would order as many as I could for a price at $8 (2003 that is). I'm sure you have all heard that the mint is requiring purchasers to buy 2 past eagles for every 3 2003 they order. I believe the 2003 will probably be the most expensive BU Silver eagle yet.

I agree that "value-wise" they are the same, but since many buyers only want the current year, I figure that sellers will want to capitalize for having to stock 2002 also.

Wonder if the 2002s will get even lower with distributors having to move two of them for every three 2003s they sell. I assume the prices will eventually settle out to make both sell equally well. For example, for each 33-cent increase in price for a 2003, the distributor can sell a 2002 for 50 cents less.

  • Being a new collector my friend who has a large hoard strictly told me Littleton is a rip off how they mark up the prices. Only thing I buy from them our their binders.

Also bought a 2001 SAE on ebay it was from littleton came back from PCGS MS68.
