EVP- I have always admired the message of your posts and the calming influence you provide to this Forum.
Thanks!
However, in reviewing your list of 5 things that will happen if you "out" a person, I have to ask won't the same 5 things occur if a Member specifically names an Ebay seller and the exact transaction?
Perhaps, but I think we tend not to be as partisan with people we don't know.
Once again, I have to ask why is it that a Member receives a "free pass" for no other reason than they post to this Forum? Why should a Member receive immunity when they use shoddy business practices? I can't think of even 1.
I don't advocate a free pass to any scumbag deadbeat ne'er-do-well. Member or not. I am simply saying that Bob hasn't yet reached the limits of his frustration with the approach he's taken in dealing with this issue. To him, it's not yet deperation hair-pulling time. He's merely soliciting advice. Roughly, the steps he's taken are: try to resolve matter on his own; try to get advice from others; ...
There need be no rush to out anyone. Bob can do that at anytime. And, it's been about a month. That's not an obnoxiously long amount of time, considering that we have Thanksgiving and all the pre-holiday busy activity to deal with.
Since my transactions within the forum are limited, I usually just sit back and enjoy some of the humor associated in some of these threads, but, regarding this particular statement,
Once again, I have to ask why is it that a Member receives a "free pass" for no other reason than they post to this Forum? Why should a Member receive immunity when they use shoddy business practices? I can't think of even 1.
I would like to comment that, besides the "somewhat" personal nature in which we interact here, how about the fact that eBay is an auction/retail type forum with the exclusive purpose of buying and selling ACCORDING TO ESTABLISHED criteria, and the transactions in this forum are entered into in a less formal and established way. This lends itself to patience and discretion not expected on eBay.
That aside, I admit I am curious as to who the culprit is AND I sometimes wonder why some agreements are entered into. I've seen what I thought were some nice deals (I either miss the opportunity or they aren't offered to me ) but generally, I keep business to a minimum with people I haven't established a relationship, and it amazes me some of the "agreements" that do go one here. (I lost my train of thought in this last para, so if it goes astray, just delete it. ) I'm gettin' like that in my old age.
I just hope it isn't me. I just found e-mails from someone whose coin I bid on on ebay back at the end of November. He sent me the coin without waiting for me to pay.....and I forgot to pay him. Then the coin arrived I assumed I had paid for it. It's been sitting here on my desk for a week. He has e-mailed me a couple times about it but I haven't processed my e-mail for the past week yet. I've e-mailed him back now and I've got the check ready to go out in the mail tomorrow. I have a couple of PM's I've got to get back with as well. So if anyone is waiting for something from me I'm getting to it I promise.
condor101 if your saying the moral of the story is "see innocent mistakes happen" I don't agree. You need to pay better attention, if your so busy that these things happen do less things.
A leading national dealer did this to me once and didn't contact me for over a month after I called repeatedly and left messages. I was certain they had done El Paso Coin Co. (Renato Ruiz) dance down to Mexico. A call from a major trade organization got them to finally call back and resolve the issue.
Another big diff between here and ebay is that by the time members post about it here, they have probably already tried contacting them thru ebay to the point of frustration, then they post it here. I doubt anybody has a problem that is new or less than at least several weeks old on ebay, and posts it here right away. At least it seems that way to me. I think I would out them, so's nobody else has the same problem, then if it is a mistake or something justifieable, they can explain, exchange apologies and be done with it

He did have the chance to explain. He was logged in and failed to respond to the messages left for him. That to me is inexcusable and subject to extreme scrutiny. Now with the information made public with this thread, this person's credibility as a seller to members of this board is now seriously damaged, perhaps irreversably so, imo.
If this happened on eBay, you would at least have the option of leaving negative feedback. I believe the time limit is about a month --- or less! I have found that the more time that passes, the more time you have wasted in completing the deal. If this person has personal problems, they should contact you. When both of my parents were in ICU and then my Dad died, I had all kinds of auctions going on, and dealt with every one of them professionally and responsibly, by asking for patience and understanding for any delays - which didn't happen anyway, but covered by bases anyway, just in case. Altho I am a trusting person, when it comes to business, I rarely ship items before payment is received. I would definitely try to find this person's phone number and give them a call. Then if you don't hear from them, let them know that you live around the corner. If this person is an eBayer, find one of their auctions, bid, pay and then spill the beans on feedback. Good luck - hope it works out. What I do on eBay when someone doesn't respond is send an email with the subject line: THIRD REQUEST, and then the email is in big RED bold type - absolutely no nonsense! In your case, you can let them know you will report them to appropriate agencies for fraud.
ok. so who done it? spill the beans . tell .. post the name ..give out the email .. ebay name everything ...i wonder how he would like to get 8000 emails from all of us, bid all his auctions up and on and on ..do tell
I appreciate all the advice. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to eat this one. No responses from Goldenpony and I've given him more than enough time and enough opportunities. Unfortunately, my patience has run out.
I will continue to have a considerable amount of faith in the board. I have had many dealings with many members and have always been happy. But I feel this was bound to happen sooner or later either here or on eBay. I would have much preferred it to happen on the latter. I will, however, be a bit more careful.
I'm sorry that things isn't working for you with this transaction. I hope the loss wasn't too great. I appreciate the difficulty you faced in deciding to reveal the deadbeat's name (albiet, his ID wasn't a well kept secret!). You handled the situation well, and you deserved better. I hope that, in the end, you still get satisfaction from this.
Sorry to hear that it didn't turn out well in the end. I think you handled it well.
I've only had great experiences buying from members of this board. However, your experience sure does have me hesitant to buy from any members whose board reputation I am unfamiliar with or who I haven't bought from in the past. I hope the ghosts visit him this Christmas and he decides to make things right.
Tell us where you sent the package....maybe one of us lives close enough to pay our brother Goldenpony a personally warm and fuzzy visit - or can lurk around his PO box....
I am sure just a small talk will have him sending his end of the deal your way.
Thanks, Mike, I appreciate the gesture. But I think I'll just have to blow this one off. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you.
Bob- I think it's terrible he ripped you off but you gotta wonder what caused a forumn member in good standing to do such a thing? he must be in a serious financial bind or worse. mike
I've had 94 PM exchanges with Goldenpony since I joined the boards. He bought numerous coins from me and promptly paid for them all. He is a family man and I believe his son or stepson is in the Air Force as well. I know he makes it a point to visit his son in the Air Force. I wonder if this has led to him being unavailable for so long? I would be very surprised and dissapointed to hear that his avoidance of this subject coin deal had to do with him trying to take advantage of anyone. I hope this helps.

Somehow, I believe that this is going to work out just fine. "GP" has been around, a long time. I have faith in fellow man, and believe that there is aa reason for all of this. And you know what, Don't let this sour your milk. Education is expensive, this could turn out to be a great expierience, a good learning expierience or a bad one. What value are we talking about anyway?

I share your optimism. It usually takes a long time for me to give up on someone. As far as the amount, a bit over a hundred. I know it's small potatoes to alot of people, but to a collector with a limited coin budget it's the difference between buying the one you've wanted and having to wait awhile longer.

Thats is a extremely long time when all the other party simply had to do was respond to the many pms and emails that have been sent.
I can't think that any person here would want to send some coins to someone and not hear a word from the other party for about a month.
