Reason #4: No one in his right mind would do this to a classic coin.

Well sure, you wouldn't want to do that to an 1877 IH cent!
They've been stretching coins since about 1892 so if you look
hard enough there's no telling what you'll find though.

I read that someone took an 1876 20 cent piece to the 1892 Columbus Exposition just so he could have the only stretched one.
I think I read about it in Bowers'
Adventures With Rare Coins
.

I used to own a stretched three cent nickel from the Columbian exposition.

I collect both classics and moderns and consider myself a numismatic purist. I have no idea what
the appeal is with elongates.

I bet you could stick a dime into one of those things that makes pennies into elongated pennies, and sell it on ebay for a fortune. Call it an error.

I've tried. The newer ones won't allow it. It has to be a cent.

Will it reject Canadian cents?

I think it rejects based on size. I've seen Canadian rolled cents, but I have no idea if they were done in Canada or here.

If it was made in the U.S.A., it better.

I'll see if it takes Elizabeth II young portraits and rejects the "matron head" type. If it does, I'll sue the operator for age discrimination.
