Counterfeit coins

Was just curious as to whether counterfeit coins (Morgan semi-key) are of any value? Also, are they subject to confiscation? I believe I have seen one for sale. Would be kind of a neat conversation piece if nothing else.

I believe you can own them but if you sell you must tell it is counterfeit. Some counterfeit coins are worth more than the real thing. Probably not with rare dates. Maybe someone into Morgans can help more.

Find a decent cc and cut and paste both to paintshop or the like and compare.

I had a common date counterfit Morgan, A dealer paid me more than I paid for it. He was a collector for fake coins and really liked this one...

It looks odd for a supposed BU coin, and I couldn't even find the reverse. What's up with that?

Counterfeit coins that were made at the same time that the real thing was circulating often have a collectors’ value. It can range from not much for fairly recent, generally poorly done counterfeits of Barber coins and Walkers to substantial amounts for some counterfeit colonial coins.

Recent counterfeits that were made to fool modern collectors usually are not worth much of anything. In fact I think they should be defaced so that future collectors will not get stuck with them.
