  • I've been "mining" silver halves from a local casino. Found quite a few proofs lately. The slots aren't kind to the mirrored surfaces.

  • Nice Marty. Looks like it was struck on the wrong planchet. An Ike maybe?

  • Where do you live marty?
  • Actually it looks kinda like it could be the first hits on a cap die. The rims look to be starting to dish up like they do with a cap die. But it would be cool if it was struck on a ike .

Right on the outskirts of Troll island!!! Actually the Chicago area

As for the 74 half, at first I thought someone had worked on it. The rim is twice the thickness all the way around. I don't have a scale, I'd love to weigh it to see if it is the same weight as a half.

  • Looks like someone took a hammer to the rim on the first one. Same weight?

Do a simple balance for the weight. Find a sturdy flat board and place it atop a pencil half-way in the middle. Then put the coins on both ends. If it doesn't tip, it's the same weight. Roughly speaking, of course. I really doubt it's an ike planchet. I bet it's been helped to look that way. Although a picture of the rim would help.

What dates walkers did you find?

Wow a watch back? Boy the banks sure do take in a lot of weird stuff at times.

That 1974 half is a hammered coin...just as JeffinMich said. Someone hammered in the rims from the edges. That's not a mint error.

You might want to re-check those 500 & 1000 peso coins. The Mexican peso has traded between 9 & 10 for the U.S. dollar for the last few years and I don't believe they've issued 500 or 1000 peso coins for circulation. Also, I don't think they've had any kinds of devaluations a la Argentina of the 1970s.

Those coins could be Ecuadorian Sucres or Paraguayan Guaranís.

The 500 & 1000 pesos are the old ones, the 10 pesos are worth about a buck each...

You sure do seem to find a lot of darkside stuff in those rolls and bags, what do you do with it all?

I only wish I had the cash on hand to do that kind of searching myself.........image
