This is what happens when one is too lazy to order from the mint.

Its going to be fun sending them off to get graded and cherrypicking the rolls.
I will let everyone know how they come back.

Under 6m in mintage. Possibly shoty production? Who knows?, but why not have a little fun with
    the pop reports.

  • I bought 4 sets from the mint for chits and giggles....The D's (end roll coins only) were WAY better than the P's....That said, out of the 8 rolls 7 were CRAP.

But....I have a roll of P's (go figure) that appear to be proof like and monster (again, judging by the end coins) but the rest....image

Hmm, the Buy It Now is still active...
  • Serious Question:

From this thread, it appears that the rolls are being bought to find coins for submission and hit that
MS68 for $750.00. Besides being outrages, the question remains, is this the reason to buy the rolls
or is there some potential for collection purposes?

From what I've heard there probably will not be any 67s or 68s found in the rolls or bags. The halves in the mint sets were made very nice, in other words 67 or 68 quality, but most were damaged before or during packaging. From what I have found searching sets, you need to plan on searching approx. 100 sets to find a few 2002 halves that will make 67.

i love "prices are going up rapidly" - and that's why i've got to get rid of them now! i may push myself into a higher tax bracket. does anyone actually bite on that?

Just keep in mind that the halves the mint is selling, are business strikes intended for circulation. Granted, I most times don't like the quality of the mint sets, but I like the coins NOT minted for collectors even less.

  • With a maximum of 5.5 million coins some people believe it may be hard to get your hands on 2002 kennedys. It is doubtful any great coins will be in the business strike rolls. The truth is there will be plenty of 2002s in everyday grades. The question is at some point will the mint be forced to destroy the tons and tons of unwanted halves in the vaults? If so the 2002s may be a not so circulated coin. As of now nobody seems to want to carry them around in their pockets.
