I'm no expert on these, but if original and it appears to be, I would say VF20ish?

I like it a little better than the rest of you. I think it's ch.vf/30, with a 2-10 shot at xf/40. The weak right feather detail on the reverse is as struck, they are all like that, or I should say, a lot of these coins are weak here. Take that out of the equation, and the coin is well detailed. The obv. has too much detail for a vf. Of course, my opinion. image

VF30, the drapery lines are too worn for any higher grade. The eagle's right wing is a weak strike. Nice original coin.

A nice vf-30 ish coin. Good obverse strike, though the strikes on the 20's and 30's capped bust halves tend to be better than the earlier years. I have an 1826 and it looks very similar to yours color-wise, but mine is a different variety (O-106, as opposed to yours, which I believe is O-112)

I added a blow up of the rev. Do the letters like the S or the N indicate worn smooth or is there something else going on?

  • The s and the n look worn down to me

The S and N look filled, well, because they are. Your coin is the variety O-112. Overton writes in his book "The first S is filled solid in the upper loop, on all specimens observed, although it may exist without this defect, most also show a partly filled angle in N."

Usually a single letter won't show extensive wear by its own.

Thanks for pointing that out nap. You forced me to read up on this date and sure enough there it is plain as day. I will have to add this info to my database.
