I think they'd have a nice premium on them. I'd probably pay no more than 30% more than for a non off-center morgan.

I wonder if there is a nice variety hiding in there somewhere?

The seller of this one wants a min. of $6777.00 is he off base?

For me and my limited experience.... yes.
  • Seems way to high. I would say around $400.00 for this grade and date. Not an expert in error coins though.

    10% o-c - not much premium.

25% or more w/ date - significant premium. something truly wild, like 75% o-c w/ date - humoungous prem.

  • From what I've read, Morgan errors command a premium that other type coins of the era do not enjoy. Apparently few morgan errrors reached circulation because they were easier to spot on the large coins and were pulled. At least this is the theory that I read (from a dealer selling morgans. Take it with a grain of salt.) Although I don't have any first hand experience with this, I tend to agree that +6k is a bit much. Poor boy that I am, I'd be willing to spend a few hundred for it.

  • Its a cool error but, I think it should be around 350-400 dollar range.

I am no error expert but I would say the $6777 asking price is a lot closer to the actual value than the 300-400 estimates. Ask Mike Byers. He's the error guy.

If the recent B&M auction of Russ Logan's half dollars is any indication, anything 10% and over off-center go for significant premiums, 500% and up, check the prices realized. Even 5% off-center coins had substantial premiums.

How rare are off-center Morgans? Any auction prices available? This info would help with pricing.

An OC Morgan sold in the last B& M for $15,000. Below is a ebay link to a similiar piece I have for sale.

  • Wow. I was wrong. I didn't know 10% off center morgans went for that much.

    Hello everyone!

Off-center Morgans are massively and profoundly rare... in any grade, and by any amount that is immediately noticeable. (3% and other such sillyness doesn't count.

If you ever get the chance to buy one for as little as $300-$500, please ask for the rest of the roll, and sell them to me!!

    When in doubt, don't.
  • Really neat! Thanks for sharing. I'll be watching that auction.
