Need opinions on this SLQ

I was thinking about buying this SLQ: 1917, but I am not very familiar with the series. It looks to be a Type 1, but I have no clue on the grade or value, what do you all think the grade is, and how much is a fair price? Sorry, I only have a photo of the obverse.

THANKS!

    au 50 probably, looks dull.
The slq's are tough to grade.
  • small pic but it looks like a full head and near MS...hard to tell

    Type 1
    AU
Possibly cleaned (Looks artificially dull grey - tough to tell from that scan)
Approximate value $120 (uncleaned--lower if cleaned)
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • The dull grey color can sometimes be attributed to the light that the picture was taken under. Florescent can sometimes make the silvers look a dull grey. Although - it could be overdipping/cleaning as well.

It looks like a nice quarter- AU-BU to me.

I vote cleaned also. Not very attractive, imo. The only thing that coin is singing to me is the blues.
  • That is a type 1.
I would say AU-58 FH for a grade.

    Jeff,
Thought you had a beautiful 1917 MS63FH. I recall you posting a pic on your grading challenge and most of us were fooled into 65/66. Still got it?

  • Tom,

    I still have that quarter, but it's a 1930. I don't think I have a type 1 at all, that's why I was interested in this one.

If you want this date specifically it's not really hard to find a nice MS piece. There are plenty around....
