There is no direct evidence that lightning hit his kite even once. But more interesting is the fact that it didn't have to, in order for him to collect static electricity in a primative capacitor called a Leyden Jar (that's not an alcohol bottle in the picture)connected to the key. All he needed was an approching storm or atmospheric disturbance.

Beautiful note! I know zippo about currency but have often been tempted to collect a few as the notes of the past are so beautiful.

Question: How did notes of over a 100yrs ago manage to stay so pristine? I mean without even a fold/crease? Even near new notes today have at least a tiny crease somewhere. Notes are not as durable as coins so I would think damage would occur more easily.

zero. a passing storm cloud - not a lightning bolt - negatively charged the kite, string and key.

Don`t know, don`t care. But what a gorgeous note. I have a few notes. A couple of gem 2 dollar bills and a couple of nice blue and gold certs. I find them every bit as collectable as coins
