I know I know, it's not PCGS material.

And it's kind of, well, "ugly".

And I would not want to own it.

But it does have that magic "01" working for it.....COPPER

  • Wish i could see more of the reverse. You can easily identify the obverse die and that does prove it is an 1797 but it isn't enough to prove that it is an S-131.

    That's the Perfect PO01. It's always kind of cool when a coin's date can be ID'ed via a die characteristic rather than the digits themselves.

    Trivia:
    What other coins can be possitively identified as to date (and MM?) even WITHOUT the date showing?

  • There are lots of them, here's a few and I'm not going to get into all of the ones you can spot if you know all the die varieties, just the major ones:

    1793 half cent

    1795 Jefferson head cent
    1801 three error reverse cent
    1817 15 star cent
    1839 booby head cent
    1859 indian head cent
    1943 cent (can tell date but not mint.)
    1864 sm motto 2 cent
    1797 half dime for 15 or 16 star varieties
    1859 half dime can't till mint though if mintmark isn't visible (all stars are hollow that year only)

    Couldn't the 1964 half be confused with a PR01 1994 (silver) Kennedy?
