    Dave,

I have a far worse story to tell about them. But, I'll be waiting until final resolution to post the gruesome details.

I do not do business with Heritage either as I feel they are the most incompetent firm I've ever dealt with, coins or otherwise.

No problems yet with heritage for me. They lot I won in the last signature auction arrived today.
Call them up and talk to Bob Marino.
  • I've won 2 of their auctions and have been very satisfied....except I get raped on sales tax because I live in California...love Cali...hate the tax image

i have been buying from them for the last three years the last 2 auctions have the problem they change the girl who handled my account and she has been screwing up everything ..
  • Heritage recently charged my credit card ( which they keep a copy of, you guys have been warned) for a coin I didn't buy. I called them told them to delete my card number from their records and I blocked that card because I didn't know what happened. They told me since I blocked the card I cannot get a refund I have to dispute the charges. So for now they have my money and this coin no one ordered. Thats not enough they suspended my account and I can no longer log on. What a bunch of screw ups. How did they ever get that big?

    agentjim,

That is awful and inexcusable IMO. I too have stories of complete incompetency regarding them, especially their upper management.

<<how did they ever get that big>>

I have no clue, they stink IMO.

As companies grow larger, they forget how they became that way, and forget how to treat their customers. Then the customer base goes away, and they can't figure out why. IMO--It sounds like they have become too large.

  • Heritage is BIG. They are so influencial they don't have to care about lil pissant buyers because they have thosands of us.

More importantly, their online business is doing so well I can see the day they do only 1-2 "live auctions", everything else will be internet. Think of the savings on travel, security, shipping, etc etc.

They are employing a smart business strategy in maximizing profits and letting quality go by the way side. Do they really have any competition with frequency of auctions, inventory, online auctions, etc?

I am not defending them but this is the reality.

I got my Sig Auction lots 3 days ago, they were loose in the box rattling around, 8 slabs. Not because of that, but 7 of the 8 had broken stacking pins. Anyone else have the same experience? It seems like they enjoy breaking off the stacking pins, almost all their lots have one or more busted pins.
  • I have called Heritage locally (Dallas) five times in the last twelve days and tried to set up an appointment to come in and look at some coins. (You have to have an appointment to look at coins on Saturday according to the receptionist.) Everytime, I've been transferred to someone's voice mail and asked to leave a message. I have left messages three times with two different people requesting to set up an appointment to look at some coins. I have not received a single call back. This afternoon....when the receptionist assured me my call would be returned was the last straw. It's seven P.M...they've been closed for two hours now and still no call. Once can happen to anyone. Twice is carelessness. Three times is incompetence. I will wait to FUN and spend my $$ there with someone that wants my business.

I am not mad....this is a hobby and it is about fun. I will not let someone's incompetent employees spoil my joy.

Edited to explain that you have to have an appointment.

    Go well.

    BigDave -

I hope Heritage unsnarls your mess. Sorry you were disappointed. This clearly wasn't your fault.

I've never had a problem with Heritage at all, which is amazing given their massive size. I've had maybe 50 to 60 transactions (both auction and regular sales). They've also been prompt and courteous in all my dealings. In fact, they usually ship my coins several days before they receive payment. One of the last few companies that actually "trust" the customer (well, at least they trust me).

Anyway, hope you get it squared away.

There are some very vindicative people at Heritage. Your report of being put on a 'black list" doesn't surprise me. I would like to think that the majority of people there are decent folks but one bad egg can have a big influence. I guess we won't know the whole story until someone who used to work there fills us in on the details.

The last coin I bought from Heritage is now in the hands of PCGS being 'evaluated' as a real 70 or not. My guess is the Ike PR70DCAM pops will soon drop by one....

Did some research after the fact. They sold the same coin about three months prior. The winner probbly looked at it and sent it back and the put the same coin up for sale again. Noticed they didn;'t mention prior sales in their auction description either.

"The last coin I bought from Heritage" will probably be just that.
  • Ah yes..."a real 70"

I've been doing business with Heritage for well over 10 years. They're not perfect but I don't ever seem to have problems with them that I've read in this thread.

I can tell you one funny thing that happened recently. I read on these boards that someone got an invoice for a coin they didn't bid on.

A few days later, that happened to me.....or so at least I thought. I got an email telling me I had won a lot. I sent a pleasant email to the
sender (I like to mix things up from time to time.....) and told him that I hadn't bid on the coin.

Then, in bass ackwards order, I looked up the coin and lo and behold, that jogged my memory into remembering that I had indeed bid on the coin.

I bid on the coin around 30 days before the auction ended and totally forgot about it. I think it was the Santa Clara Auction which started for internet
bidders some 30 or so days before the auction ended.

Needless to say, I sent another email apologizing for the fact that I had forgotton.

I got a pleasant email back.

If Heritage were treating me badly, believe me, you would know it. As far as I am concerned, if Heritage did not exist, half of my collection would not exist. They are without doubt the largest and best Dealer/Auctioners in the country. I personally have Paul Simonetti filling my want lists. What other dealer has the inventory or auction after auction of great rarities??? They even have the best layaway plan in the business. A company of this size is bound to have a few small gliches.
To be completely honest, I did have a couple of minor problems about two years ago when I first started using Heritage. I would use the "bid now feature" and not hear anything back from them. When I complained, Paul Simonetti contacted me, and was assigned to assist me in all matters. I personally do not use the "bid now feature", there or anywhere. If I see a coin I need, I call Paul, and without even asking, he discounts every coin that I bring to his attention.
Big Dave, I hope everything works out for you. Whatever the misunderstanding is, I hope they have a competent representative call you and iron things out. Zerbe

If kim was there i would not have any problems, thru the years she taken care of everything fast i never had time to get mad or upset my coins were shipped before i paid for them if i had a problem it was taken care of..the new girl says i have to wait even though i pay instantly her emails are rude and when i called she said we will look into it never heared back from her so i packed all the coins up and sent them back my main problem is HER i spend a lot of $ with them and expect to be treated like a great customer if you purchaced a pcgs coin and someone sent you an icg in its place you would expect them to correct it FAST not tell you i will get back to you and then dont

  • My screw up wasn't an auction bid 30 days prior that I forgot about. They said it was a web order. I've never ever bought anything from Heritage that wasn't out of an auction. BTW it was a NGC MS64 1921 Morgan for $40 (plus $4.25 shipping). Thats not even close to the kind of stuff I buy. It couldn't have been anyone else in this house either because no one else knows my password ( like I said I've never placed a web order but I would assume you would need the password to place a purchase on a credit card on file), Since its only 40 bucks I'm not sweating it but they screw up and suspend my account. It really doesn't matter I've already set up another account, I'll never buy anything from them but I can still use the archives.
  • Just to throw in my two bits worth of Heritage Experience:

I have spent around $20k with them this year and my only desciption of 90% of the coins is "PQ".

Anyway, that being said, am I the only one that realizes that companies are similiar to people in that they make mistakes just like the rest of us?

Big Dave, are you saying that because of one mess up you're going to bail on Heritage forever? You say this was a measly $372 and you've spent far more? Well, apparently you had decent service then so why not chalk this up to a mistake on their part, even if they don't resolve it 100% properly in your opinion.

And as far as the new supposed lady that has messed up your account, maybe she didn't mean to do so, maybe she made a mistake. Maybe she's very busy and trying her best and the other 100 customers she helped are satisfied. Maybe not, but again, if you have had a bunch of good dealings so far why implode on this one whether the new lady is a waste or not.

If everyone followed the logic presented in this thread I highly doubt there would be any store that could be frequented.

Big Dave, I was surprised the other day, when talking about a coin with Paul Simonetti, he mentioned how he got a chuckle out of my thread on 'lawyers, lawyers, lawyers, lawyers'. Never thought he had the time to read the Forums. It is surprising how many dealers do read these threads, I found out by accident from my 'lawyers thread' , that many dealers I know, and some I never heard of did read that thread and a lot of them, called me or PM'd me. Most do not respond to the Forums, for whatever reasons, but if somebody at Heritage is reading this thread, then they should help you out and appoligize for the inconsideration bestowed upon you.

When they first started the post auction deals they had 5 coins for $1 including the $6 so i baught them my bill was $400 i called kim she looked said they messed up and took them off in less than 1 min.. that new girl looked at my account while i was on the phone she saw what i bid on a pcgs not icg all she did was have to say opps we screwed up and send me the right coin BUT NOOOOOOOOO she will look into it and then doesnt call me back ..blood presure going thru roof, danger ....danger... go to PCGS board and vent
  • "Most do not respond to the Forums, for whatever reasons"

    How about

    1. most dealers are pretty busy trying to make a living working on pretty thin margins since the PCGS revolution

    2. many dealers are self-employed and don't have time to screw around on the clock

    3. this place, i.e. this forum, has a number of people who post in here who are unkind and mean and think all dealers are
just scammers (but who secretly want to become dealers but who lack the whatever to become one)...and who
treat dealers like red-headed step children

Maybe those are not the reasons. I'm open to further suggestions.

Who knows, maybe this thread will end up as long as the lawyers, lawyers, lawyers thread.....

you are correct they most likely will correct the problem and i will buy more ,but i do not want to deal with that girl anymore.when i have a problem i expect it to be taken care of NOW not later..
  • If you knew what Kim looked like (if it's the Kim I think you're referring to), you would want to deal with her...in person.

  • I have had a few dealing s with Heritage and have no problems until this order from the Santa Clara Auction. I purchased 4 lots and was using the same credit card for payment for all 4 lots. I got one lot on Friday 12-6-02 but not the others. I called them immediately and the girl told me that because of the size of my order my credit card company required Heritage to call and do a Verbal Authorization for security purposes. So this tells me they have not taken the time to call my credit card company for 3 days (the amount of time it took one of my lots to arrive). When I called the girl there said she would have to have accounting call my credit card company and do the verbal authorazation and she "might" be able to have it shipped on Tuesday. Tuesday? why not do the voice authorization today (Friday) and ship on Monday?

The only reason I care about the shipping time is that I am going on a 3 week vacation to New Zealand and want the coins before I leave next Friday. image

all in all my dealings have been good except for the amount of time it takes from the time of sale till delivery. If their delivery time shortneded then they would be just about perfect.

  • With a little sugar, I'm not that bitter. Actually, why do you think I'm bitter? I'm actually a really, really happy person.

The problem with shipping is that the auction ends and they have to ship all the lots immediately after they're paid.

What Heritage could do is employ 40 people who sit around all year long except for 10 days, those 10 days being the days coins are to be shipped.

    agentjim,

Not all dealers in this industry are ruthless con men, in fact, I think the majority are very pleasant and basically honest businessmen IMO. In my extensive dealings with many, many people over the past 25 yrs. or so, I have only met a few that I truly didn't care for or thought were dishonest.

  • I'm not sure who got who on that one.......

    But......on another related topic....

If I wanted to screw people out of coins (buy them real, real, cheap, you know rip-off cheap...) what I would do is spend enormous money
on double page advertising, trolling for ignorant people who have just inherited collections.

One or two enormous collections per year will pay for decades of double pages.

Anyone know the number for Coin World's advertising department?

I think the only thing that will finally settle this bad blood between you and anaconda would be a celebrity boxing match,,,,,,,My suggestion would be Caesars Palace, 12 rounds, 8 oz. gloves, 10 point scoring system, and you can only be saved by the bell in the last round.
