What would you guys grade this 1871 Two Center (testing myself).

I know nothing about Two Centers... but, I'll give a 90... it's got a good beat, and I can dance to it.

I think it would grade G, possibly VG. The rims aren't worn down, which is pretty much a given at the FR grade.

Fair would be worn basically smooth... I'd go with G-4 on that one.

The obverse is just a G-4 (the WE is completely worn) but the reverse is VG

Just so people know, the WE can be absent on F/VF coins due to being weakly struck.

In VG the WE need not be there due to wear.

Its a solid VF30 Rev and G/VG Obv. Probably because of a weak strike. I would net it out at VG maybe Fine.

vg-8+ details. 90% of the time, strong, full rims on any closed-collar coin automatically puts you in the vg or higher category. full dentilation ususally gets you up to f-12+. can't tell if there's corrosion or not though, so couldn't give a net

Good-4. It's really a classic example for the grade.

Yes, the reverse is sharper because of the strike, but coins are graded and priced based on their worst side. If a coin get any extra points at all for being better on one side than the other, the obverse has to be the better side.

I think it is an F like the duck said VF30 Rev and G/VG Obv. so I hit the middle grade.

Clearly, I have much to learn about grading these. I'm finding that I have a tendency to be too critical and end up frequently undergrading. This coin is listed on eBay right now, and the seller has it listed as Extra Fine. Even being a newb, I knew that wasn't close, but I guess the coin isn't as bad as I thought.

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, 2-cents are really easy to undergrade! I would have put this one at a VG/F, but these coins are notorious for weak strikes, and it's often hard to differentiate between strike and wear. It's a nice coin though.

The only weakly struck two cent coins I have same came at the end of the series. The 1870 and 1871 can come weakly struck. All of the earlier issues come well struck.

The word "WE" should be sharp and clear for the EF grade. If it isn't it's not EF, but the grading services have really degraded the standards. Perhaps that's why some of you are giving this coin a grade of Fine or better, which it clearly does not deserve.

I have an 1865 MS62RB that is very poorly struck. The left side is nearly flat on the coin. If it weren't in a PCGS slab (with lots of red left) I never would have believed it's an MS coin.
