Is this coin a Fine or some other grade. The picture color is almost correct. Do not know what the whitish color is on the reverse. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I would go VF on it, but the white stuff could be some sort of corrosion.

looks to be a fine, the white stuff on the back does not help it very much.

commercial grade would definitely be vf-20, eac probably more like 12+. obv dentilation is very good, no rim-nicksm stars are nicely defined, i like it a lot. mark on chin does not detract, rev. color is not outrageous for copper this old, & looks free of corrosion or pvc. i'd guess $50 retail. nice coin!

I think the white stuff is a residue from an old cleaning. The sharpness grade is VF-25 with a minor reduction for the odd color. The post that stated this coin would retail for $50 is in line.

This piece is Cohen variety 1828-1, and according to him it is the scarcest variety of the year with an R-3 rating. Don't get too excited. It's price is the same as the most common variety in this condition.

    Bill:

Educate Me on the Cohen variety.

I bought this just because it is a good looking coin IMO. Really know very little about these at all. This type of stuff just does not come around very often in this part of the woods.

    Thanks for the Input everyone.

it is a little more expensive than the type1 drape bust half cent coin but you shouldn't have to take out a big loan. VF about 55.00 at the shop I go to.
