Ever been grateful to have been outbid?

nwcsnwcs Posts: 13,386 ✭✭✭
I just breathed a big sigh of relief. I had a bid on a coin I liked when I bid but later wanted to put the money somewhere else. But because I don't believe in cancelling a bid, I left it. And now someone has outbid me and I'm happy again! Ever felt that big wave of relief?

Yeah, when I bid on something before reading the fine print and that the seller wanted $7.95 to ship a single coin worth less than $20....I could have shipped it for under $2 including insurance.

Yup... I bid, then realized the coin was a $3 coin from London... about $8 to ship image!

Several times. Once I bid on a Morgan then kept searching and found one with a good BIN and bought it, forgetting about the previous bid until later. I really didn't want two of them. Got sniped at the last second and sent the winning bidder a thank youimage

I'll have to remember that one.

  • I've been there sooooo many times that I can't count them. We only have so many $ to go around.

Oh, I feel like sending a thank you! I got out of a 1879S and into a 1891O Morgan. Nice improvement for me. image
  • Yes!!!

I bid on this one early and then something came up and I would not have been able to pay for it.
I was sweating 'till the last few minutes of the auction when someone finally out bid me. image

I did send a thank you to the winning bidder. I bid a on a coin that I already had two of and wanted to sell one.

  • I thought of starting this tread last week. So the answer is Yes, I hate that feeling after you bid and you find or see something bad about the coin, or find a better one cheaper.

Oh yes all the time. Thanking GOD on a daily basis.

  • At one time I was high bidder on three PCGS ms65 1882-CC Morgans. They were all nice but I did not really want all three. Someone was nice enough to outbid me at the last minute on the one I had the highest proxy bid on. The other two were at greysheet ask (including shipping) so I was able to trade the lesser of the two that I got with my local dealer at no loss.

Found myself doing the same thing right after that on another year, now I try to be a bit more careful.

Of course, now the funny thing is that I did get to say thank you to the great guy who took what I hope is a really nice morgan. It's not that I didn't want the morgan or that it was bad. But I looked at my priorities and changed my mind about it. Wanted to get something a little more valuable. (and costly)

Yes I have and more than once I may add.
  • It's so great to hear that other people are impulsive bidders like I am.
Right now I'm praying to get outbid for a coin that's far beyond my budget. This isn't the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last! Twowoodimage
  • Everytime I have been outbid, I am gratefull, cause I didn't want the win anyway. Lord knows, If I wanted it, nobody else could win it. I have been known to bid tomorrows oxygen, on a coin that I want. So yes a loss can be a great thing.
