is it good or bad

that the Redbook's grading standards are SO general?

  • Good.

The redbook is supposed to have coin values and info and not be a grading guide. They put in the few grades for the new collectors as a reference point but not as a grading guide.

It's good if you are using it for non-MS coins, especially good for newbies, as it lists every price... MS, though is a problem, here's why.

First off, MS-60 and 63 isn't a common grade for most of the MS coins they list, and MS-65 is the only other they really use a lot. For a newbie who might recognize that the coin is uncirculated but not know 60-70 could get screwed with those prices for coins with big jumps, no understanding the difference and with no middle term.

Good, as long as people realize what it actually is. A guide and retail pricing with grading descriptions.

1907 - it's neither good, nor bad, simply realistic in many cases.
