Asking for help with an auction archive

I am trying to trace the 1953-S MS-66FBL franklin being discussed here through the two auctions.

I know it sold for $69,000 in the Bowers "The Rarity Sale", but cannot find the second time when it was sold later for a lesser amount ($35-40K).

Can anyone help or remember what sale it was in and how much it sold for?

  • Heritage sold one in August of 2001 for $35,075.

If memory serves, that was the Atlanta ANA sale.

    Edited to add the sale.

  • Thanks. Do you know the auction name or lot number?

  • It was Heritage Signature Sale 267 - which I believe was the Atlanta ANA. Lot number 6331.

There was some ANA intern who predicted the coin would sell in that Heritage auction for $39,000-$42,000. Pretty close. It was in this thread. image

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Thanks for the link Kranky. Who could that intern be?image I was pretty close but forgot about my prediction.
