I must thank you, someone not trying to bash me! I appreciate your kind words which are rare on this forum. I consider this my pro bono work!

Unfortunately, Byron hasn't taken me up on my offer.

I'm listening as well, when you awake, Byron.
  • Mike, it's to bad you had to be harassed like that, I'm sure if cointoast had ever met you as I have he might not have come across the way he did, nonetheless you handled the situation with total class and professionalism.Btw hope to see you at the Anaheim show this coming Sun.(12-8).
Friends are Gods way of apologizing for your relatives.

Thanks Paul, I appreciate that as well. CoinToast really doesn't understand life or people if he can make generalizations as he has. Not all lawyers are scumbags, though there are some as there are with any profession, hence the nature of Zerbe's discontent.

I take my profession and role in it seriously. The beautiful thing about the law is that it can be a shield and a sword, its all in how one wields it.

And of course I will be there, with my Peaces as well. image John's got a 23-D I want to take a look at.

Hopefully, I'll get my two newest by then and can bring those as well.

    See ya there.

    Michael,

Are you familiar with the laws governing business on the internet? Do you have to have a license in my state to represent me in such matters as protecting copyright and other legal matters involving doing business on the internet? If so, I would like to talk with you. I need to retain an attorney for my business (coppercoins.com) - the just in case - not that I need representation in any current matters.

If you are interested let me know and I can call you.

That's a really nice website! Well laid out, easy to navigate, informative, nice job. And you get quite a few visitors!

As for my legal services, I don't know what state your in, for some reason the "Contact Us" page of your website wasn't working. But I'm in California, if that's any help. I am familiar with internet and copyright law on the Internet, but it isn't my specialty. For the most part, the courts are trying to apply the same copyright laws to the internet that it has applied to all other intellectual property. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Jurisdiction is tough to call for the internet. There are several cases addressing this. Where are your servers/host located?

I would say, you probably don't need an attorney on retainer for a just in case situation. But if there's something happening currently, let me know and I'll try to help you out. Most copyright cases are Federal and are very expensive to litigate.

  • I love lawyer jokes. I also love pilot jokes (20 year USAF pilot). But jokes aren't people. Michael is a real live person and a really fine one at that. I've only met him through PMs but he sets a high standard for lawyers and all others.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

Thanks, nice to see the "We Hate Lawyers" contingency hasn't made it's way over here yet!

Aren't these boards for the sharing of knowledge? Since I don't have a wealth of knowledge as to numismatics that I can impart, at least I can make a positive contribution by sharing a little free legal advice. Lawyers can be very expensive and if I can save someone some money, I think it's worthwhile.

I'm pretty thick-skinned and the bashing from those uninformed doesn't really phase me image

Mike, I guess there are a lot of people who hate lawyers, especially in the field of divorce. There must be at least a million people out there who have formed a, maybe permanent, bad, impression of lawyers, because of what they went through in a divorce. But most people get over it .
I have a very, very unpleasant lawyer story, but I don't let that effect my judgement on ALL lawyers. We all need a lawyer for something or other, and for the most part, I have met some very nice people practicing law. I just want to thank you and Anaconda again for replying so rapidly to my "Lawyer thread". I am still holding tight and waiting for a reply from the other side. I still have not mentioned their name, so maybe they are having a hard time trying to figure how to sue me. And don't forget I tried to give you some advice on your Peace Dollar set a while back.
    Regards, Zerbe

Thanks and I do remember. My offer still stands if you want to call me I'll be in my office in about an hour. It seems as though this dealer really needs to be look at closely since this appears to be their typical operating procedure.

    Michael--
I think you would find there are a great majority of people on the forum that have read your posts and appreciated your contributions time and time again. One of the funny things about this forum is how pockets of discontent can create the impression that a certain attitude is more prevalent than it actually is.
I would be very surprised if there really was any widespread dislike for lawyers here. And even if some hold that view, I would be very surprised if they were unable to separate that from the positive contributions you have made, and how you have gone out of your way to help people here. I have noticed it. And I will bet you, a lot of other people have noticed it also.

Sorry it took so long to get back over here to respond...

-I am in Springfield, Missouri, my server is in Kansas City. My general reasons for desiring an attorney who will represent me are to do generally the following...

    1. Be there for advice while I work on / open new areas of the site, such as the online store, keeping membership and customer information, etc. I just want to make sure the bases are covered.

    2. Be able to type / sign / send out notices to those who are infringing on copyright - not necessarily that anything would ever come to litigation, but a thorough letter from a barrister is usually enough to get most to stop using images illegally...and that's most of what my business is - providing images for people to see - so that's most of what needs to be protected. Not that I'm some a-hole who doesn't want anyone using any of my images, ask around on the board - I have given some of them away. I just don't want some eBay seller using them for their own porposes of gain.

    3. To help with the legal matters of setting up the business properly according to the necessary laws, especially those I am likely unaware of. Basically, I intend on making this every bit as legal a business as Yahoo, eBay, Coin World, you name it....so I want to make sure all the necessary ducks are in their places.

That's it. There's not much else to consider, the only thing I could ever imagine being "sued" for is someone coming after me for lible in having published price guide prices...and their using those price guide prices only to find out they were incorrect...which shouldn't be a problem.

Anyhow, I will be calling you tomorrow....thanks.
