KK, he is selling his business. The buyer would then own the business.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I consider myself a small dealer, 5K seems a bit low. I recently sold one coin for $4000.00. would like to sell all my inventory and start over aqain. That would be a big check, (cash would be too heavy the carry) LOL.

  • I have sold off all the remaining inventory so that whoever purchased the business could have a fresh start. In the websites first eight months it did $24,000 in gross sales. And that is with the items on my site being inexpensive. This is a really good deal for someone.

  • a good deal for someone....hmmmm...who?

    You?

Seems to me that if it was a "good deal", you would already have a buyer. Think about it.
  • What if someone wanted it but were on the East coast ... would you change it to eastcoastcoins (if available) ... if so, what would the value of eastcoastcoins be ? Would it start at much less $ since there would be no hits on it as it was new ?

for me and this is only from my limited 35 years 24/7 experience in the coin game

sometimes coins really great!! coins take time to sell with no interest at all. then in 3 to 5 months time you get 5 orders all at once for the same coin!!!!!!!!! i have seen some monster super rare underappreacited undervalued coins that just languise in one dalers inventories after another and even get returned by supposed long term collecytors and the coins are utterly fantastic while other pieces of crap are fought over!

now this is not a commom occurance but it does happen and i see it everyday!

same thing with coin web sites and coin anything

see my post on the buy sell trade boarda about this website for sale over there it might just need some extra marketing

and i hope if this helps then i could use a small gratuity i think
as even the pope does not work for nothing and has bills to pay......

I'm having a hard time understanding what "business" is for sale if there is no inventory. Or am I mistaken? Is this a domain and some web content for sale? Is that the $5000?

  • In fairness to Michael, there is a well established value to domains and websites. I couldn't value the domain and website at $5K without knowing a bit about keyword placement in important search engines, seeing the traffic logs, and such. It has Google PageRank 4, which is mediocre. If he had a top 3 placement for an important keyword like 'coins' on Google, that would be of significant value, for example. Such things are ephemeral, though. (I do buy and sell websites professionally)

Also, there is substantial value in a company's customer list. Like it or not, especially the larger companies buy and sell lists of customers. This is relative too, though, and you'll find less value in a list of 10,000 names with addresses of people who bought a single state quarter than you would with just 100 people who've made $10,000 in numismatic purchases in the past year. It's not stated, but I'd assume he's selling his clientele with the business.

  • When I say business, I am refering to the domain name www.westcoastcoins.com, www.westcoastcoin.com. And the website www.westcoastcoins.com and all its web content.

fantasiize, I would be willing to transfer the domain name of the website to another name if you so desired. I do not think that it would lose value, especially if you put link on westcoastcoins.com saying that you had moved to eastcoastcoins.com.

    Thanks,
    Michael

When you started your business you seemed so enthusiastic about it, and created a very nice website that has gone on to win quite a few awards. What happened? Why are you selling?

Just call it Coast to Coast Coin!imageimage
A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."
  • Flash, I still am very enthusiastic, its just that I am being realistic from the fact that I just don't have the time to manage it. It is really a very good deal fro someone aas the business will pay for itself time and time again. Its just that I don't have the time anymore. I want to see it go to someone who will take care of it.image

To be quite frank, I am a web developer and have done a number of projects. I have yet to charge anyone even $3000 to develop a full web site for them, and when I do develop them, they are always fully integrated with custom graphics. I don't see this with your site. It may have a following with customers, which is fine. You would have to show the books on that to make it worth anywhere near what you're asking for it.

  • Coppercoins, you would be correct if this was just a website however this is more than a website. This is an ongoing business with a history of sales. Which is why I am asking $3500 for it.

  • yikes! Coppercoin, I love IHCs and Lincs, but beyond our common interest, I guess we're polar opposites! image

As a part of my marketing communications consultancy, we also develop internet strategies and sites.

I've never charged less than $3500.00!

There's more to a successful business than web site appearance and interactivity. The core business is the customers, reputation, and accessibility to a universe of customers.

  • I want to clear something up right now for all. It isn't like I'm trying to scam anybody and get an extrodinary amount of money for something that isn't worth it. I did some research talked to some people evaluated my sale records and came up with what seemed to be a fair price. I started out asking $5,000, maybe that was to much, so I have lowered my price $3,500. This is 60% of what I was originaly asking.

In summary, I just came up with what seemed like an educated price for this site. I hope that I am not asking to much.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Yes, I agree - which is why I posted:

You would have to show the books on that to make it worth anywhere near what you're asking for it.

because the layout and lack of graphics on the site sure aren't worth it.

The first part to doing business on the internet is attracting customers with a nice looking site - second comes all the rest. Try a wonderful product, great business, perfect strategy, then develop a site with a lime green background. Doesn't matter what you're selling, they won't stick around long enough to find out.
