What is the most memorable thing you've learned from this forum?

The message title asks a question I think might be intriguing. For myself, I guess the most interesting thing I have learned is that people have all sorts of numismatic collecting interests and some of these people are incredible experts in their areas. Four easy examples are Conder101 (I'd never have thought to collect slabs), Braddick (I'd also never have thought to collect P01 coins), TDN (my goodness, talk about knowing every memorable trade dollar that exists), and shylock (who knows not only every Indian head but also most of the non-memorable also). Plus there are a bunch of other posters whose expertise leaves me in total awe.
So, what's the most memorable thing you've learned from these boards?

It's not so much what you say,but how you say it.
Shut up and learn.

I've also learned not to overestimate anyone either. We all put our pants on one leg at a time.

Oh, and I learned that I love Lanlord's picture!~!

If anything, the people and content on the forums have reinforced my collecting habit. Thanks!
Coin collecting is a complex process that take expertise, patience, a good library, a great eye, self control, and more than a little $.
Quality is not a grade on a slab, it is much more.
Numismatics attracts a wide diversity of people who manage to share a love for a hobby that transcends almost any descriptor.
Forum members are well informed, generous with their knowledge, time and often even tangible things.
Forum members are humorous, creative and charming
Forum members are argumentative, self righteous, rude and incorrigible.
All in all it has been a great experience.
Thanks to all of you!
1. The longer you're here the more you realize how much you don't know.
2. There are an incredible number of specialized sub-groups that fall under the title "coin collector".
3. Toning vs. White, PCGS vs. NGC, modern vs. classic, and Registry vs. Non-Registry threads have and always will be recurring themes.
4. Forum psychology in general, it can get a little clanish at times and we tend to poke sticks at newbies with strong viewpoints.
5. There are some very sharp wits here. Shiro is a great example.
6. There are some very horny coin collectors here. Whenever a new chick nic appears you'd think some of us were doing 10 to 12 at Folsom with a boy named Sue.
7. The way it continues to attract really solid people. For every troll or bickering thread there's a Mark Feld who makes us think about interesting things.

Where are they???????

I think the reply from one might be directly above this message on the previous page.... ( )

I learned that Lucybob is one cool Kitty.
I learned that this is a great place to learn with a great bunch of people to teach me.
I learned that i still love Morgan Dollars above all other rare Curns.
I learned that there are a lot of snakes on ebay.
I learned that Lucybop loves Frankie.
I learned that airplanenut creates websites.
I learned that Morgans that are starting to rot away are called toned and are viewed as a thing of beauty and now i agree
I learned to buy the slab and not the coin.
I learned that Mad Marty Loves Lan-Lords Girlie picture.
And last but not least i learned that KlectorKid is the resident Sponge
"The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD GOD Almighty."
I've learned a lot about the nuts and bolts of the grading services and the forums.
I guess the single most memorable thing I've learned is how much there is to learn.
Very good point CladKing. I learned a ton about coins, found out I knew very little about coins, made some very good contacts and some friends too, I hope. I also found out that I had a lot of growing up to do. At age 49, that is a rude awakening. I look forward to the forums for education, entertainment, and the fact that something unexpected is always popping up here and adding another new twist to my collecting experience. A great place for many reasons. mdwoods
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
1. Trolls come and go but quality coin enthusiasts remain and contribute great knowledge.
2. A few use this forum like a drunk uses a lamp post; more for support than illumination.
3. Most are eager to learn and to share knowledge and it is to these that I say, "Thank You!"
on hold as long as possible. Also its very hard to snipe a Kennedy Half successfully ahead of Russ.

He's usually right anyway. Why argue?
1. That a great many people have no sense of humor when the issue being discussed is AT.
2. Never, ever participate in an AT thread.
3. Never, ever, under any circumstances, even in pure jest, even think about using a fictional story to help sell a coin on eBay.
4. Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Dick Tracy, Professor Moriarty, Father Brown, and most of the world's other great detectives and their nemeses, are not only alive, they are also members of this forum.
2) I wasn't aware just how wide a range you can have in the quality of coins assigned the same grade by the same grading service.
3) I wasn't aware that so many others had the same questions re the inconsistencies of grading over the years that I have.
As an aside, I'd like to thank one particular board member for making it possible for me to find a quality Liberty Nickel when I was on vacation and unavailable to actually look at the coin in person (I do not bid sight unseen).

#1.Don't ask anymore stupid questions.
#2.Do not try to snipe a bid from the members.(they are 2 smart)
#3.The information you receive from the members
has a lot of value.
#4:Read more about collecting.
#5.Sell off my vinyl collection.
