Mark, Post the pics. And it would actually help if you did mention if the coin was in inventory or an archive picture in case it tickles someone's fancy. Another poster of great coins drive people crazy for a while by not identifying the source or availability of the coins.

While burning the midnight oil, occasionally strolling over here to read the daily coin blurb, it's always good to look at and talk about other people's coins. We've all learned a thing or two! Just be ready to take a bit of criticism along with the acclaim.
We may be opening up a can of worms here. Certainly pictures are good and I'm sure Coinguy1 has some incredible coins to show. This is good. But if someone sells coins here there will soon be many more. Don't we want some restrictions?
I have to ditto TomB. My concern is not with you and I trust that you really are sincere in you desire to use the post as an educational tool. I also trust that you would abide by the rule that you wouldn't sell these coins to any board member. BUT we've gone through periods in the past where some have, under the guise of "educating" forum members, used this forum to hype and sell their coins. Who is going to act as the forum judge when it comes to making the determination that someone has crossed the line in a post that seems like more of a sales pitch then an attempt to educate (I don't want the job)?
I think TomB's suggestion that you only use archived photos of coins you've already sold for the purpose you described as the best way to avoid this practice becoming an open door for trolls to sidestep the policy of not post coins they have for sale on the U.S. Coin Forum.

Please do post any coin pictures and details here. I've only been reading these boards for 2 months but already I've learned so much from you and other super members here. I've read many of your recent posts and I don't feel as though you've ever crossed the line to salesman. You possess a wealth of knowledge that we'd be stupid not to make use of. This mornings post was a great example.
Keep on postin' Karen

PMH, Tom, trime and others who have legitimate concerns about trolls, crossing the line etc. -
I thought about posting only archived coins but quickly realized that they would not be as fresh in my mind and that it would cut down significantly on the possibilities, as we don't save all of our old images. I am also pondering the idea of temporarily removing from our web site, any coins that I post here - I plan on discussing that with the office later today.
Please look at the post of the half cent I put up today and let me know what you think? It is representative of the approach I will take. I plan on posting coins that I have problems with, as well, and not only ones that I like a lot. I think that the collective board is sharp enough to quickly catch on if I or others try to "sell" here. And, I'm also confident that the board will quickly and forcefully speak its mind if it comes to that conclusion.
I appreciate your comments and your concerns and believe me, I thought about things like that before I mentioned the possibility of my posting images for discussion purposes.
Mark, post away. Your reputation precedes you and your friends will defend you. What good is a coin forum if we can't see coins and wouldn't we expect you to post coins you are familiar with (own, sold, bought, saw in person, graded, etc.)?
As for the issue of selling to board members or not, I say don't exclude us. It isn't fair to us or you. After all, selling isn't your intended posting purpose.
to those who have concerns about possible conflict of interest...
it's not like pictures of coins posted by anyone in these threads is going to compromise the vital security interests of the government of the United States...
any coin i own that i might post images of here in these threads is always for sale...at a price... any coin i own that i might tell you all about without posting images is always for sale....at a price
ANY of my coins is for are sale...at a price...if i post an image and/or tell you all about one of my coins and you think you'd like to be the new owner of it,send me an email and make me an offer i can't possibly refuse...
My perception is that coinguy's idea is for all of us to share...and that's a good thing folks because sharing with no expectation of return...is priceless....
where is that half cent,coinguy?

I think posting images where appropriate would be very helpful. I think that a series on grading with pictorial examples would be super! Others could use images to illustrate good examples of CAM, DCAM, errors, just to name a few.
My two cents,
Dan
