Anyone do biz with this eBay seller?

Everything this guy sells is "Blast White" including low circulated grades. Does he clean everything? All that he sells seem to be unnaturally white. Here's an example:

  • Mothers Mag and Alumunim Polish does make them Blast White. They just need to get the residue off before them post them to e-bay. That term and RARE are annoying.

I don't buy blast white coins. The superlative "blast" sets off a signal alarm that tells me this guy will say
anything to get rid of his crap.

The photo in the auction makes this one appear polished. Most of these have been cleaned though and I can't recall the last time I saw offered a raw, UNcleaned one on eBay.

  • I haven't dealt with him before, but overall, his feedback isn't bad. The response to the one recent neg that he has though, is the kind that I don't like to see:

Complaint : Damage on rim not reported.Other than that it's a good coin.Disappointed!!!!!
Response by cknolt1@zoomtown.com - GOT A $42 COIN FOR $22. NEVER REQUESTED REFUND!!!! GO FIGURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a warning sign when a seller responds to a complaint by trying to justify that you got a "great deal" anyway!

But again, he does have a lot of positives, too.

    Pete,

Perhaps experienced collectors avoid his stuff so only the uninitiated buy. Maybe ignorance IS bliss. I also have to agree with the term "RARE" used in most of his auctions. It is extremely annoying. I have posed this question to many others and all are in agreement that his stuff is all cleaned. If they were that nis they'd be in holders. My personal policy is never to buy raw coins on eBay. I prefer to see them in person.

    Cheers,

  • Outhaul...I won a couple of their auctions on yahoo...no major complaints. I got one advertised MS-60 Morgan from them that may be a slider...
  • Well, I guess I did it again...I bought a 1935 Peace Dol from this seller and, indeed, it was advertised as "Blast White". It doesn't appear to be cleaned under my magnifier but what does a rookie like me know?Twowood

    Twowood,

How's the luster on the coin? Is there any? Does it look natural, ie; a cart wheel affect? It may not be a problem if yours is a mint state piece and the cleaning consisted only of a correctly done dip.

  • Russ: The whole subect of cleaning and dipping is a mystery to me. I've carefully studied the enlarged attachments of coins sent in by veteran posters...most of which are really gorgeous...but I just can't make out the "cartwheel" effect and "Luster" altho easier to discern, deceives me because dipped or doctored coins would also produce a luster.
I have a very good dealer nearby who I visit and buy from occasionally and
I think I'm going to have to quiz him on my next visit. Twowood

  • that coin looks whizzed to me - probably at a jewelry store - there is still residue left in between the letters where the brush can't get to.
