Those are some nice cameos. I don't know the current prices, but that half is probably worth a ton in DCAM.

Probably a smart buy if the Franklin hits 66DC.

Looks like it sure could but you can't really tell from a scan , but it just may be????

  • Relayer- You're sure right about the Franklin. The obverse looks very solid and the reverse is certainly close, if not DCAM. The quarter and nickel are slam dunk DCAMs. Just look at the reverse of that nickel! It took some guts to put up that kind of money based only upon scans, though it may pay off big. I'm sure jwcameo is heartbroken. I would think he was sure he would get the set with that huge jump in bid.

You can be sure that if those coins won't make a high grade, with or without the DCAM, Ol'Funderburke will get out that majical digital camera and make those coins look like single digit Population coins and trick some poor Ebay'ers into believing they are getting the steal of century. It will be interesting to watch his future listings. Either raw or graded.

  • All grading has been performed by a local dealer with over 30 years of expience.
    Coins Would All Grade
    MS-63

Maybe he needs a dealer with over 31 years experiance.

Why wouldn't a dealer with 30 years experiance get him to have them graded.

    That Franklin is a KNOCKOUT.
    Lucy is gonna cry.
  • I wouldn't pay that, but it was an excellent deal. In CA that Franklin alone sheets for $2500, and in DC $6000. The quarter and dime are no slouches either. Good deal for the buyer.
  • those top two bidders both specialize in cameo coins..so apparently they saw more than i did

I hope that after-market packaging didn't fool the buyer into thinking this was NOT a put-together-set.

I also hope those CAMEOS are real.

Imagine the seller with dad's coins sitting there advertising them as "MS-63" and now he has $2,300!
  • sinin1sinin1 Posts: 7,500
I like this set - I have to wonder if they have been doctored - especially if the coin store calls them MS63 - whats up with that?

Is this the same coin store that sold them to dad?

DCAMs would be worth 6-10K but what would bodybags be worth?

I have to wonder about a coin dealer with 30 years experience grading these PROOF coins as MS-63 image

They had it graded by a dealer, all coins shoud grade MS63. The Franklin is nice though.

I hope the buyer saw those coins in person. They could very easily be PF 63s if the hairlines are severe. You can't make that judgement on a proof coin from a scan, especially with that kind of lighting.

As long as the seller is reputable, can't you just return them if you don't like them? Sounds like a shot at serious money for $20 in postage. But I think the reason they brought so much was that it was pedigreed to the "Father's Estate Collection." As long as the seller has a good track record for refunding money, the risk seems minimal. But since these were graded by a dealer with 30 years experience who still can't tell MS from PF, I'd be just a tad leery.

Is anybody else just a little suspicious of a power seller running a bunch of auctions with the heading "Father's Collection"?

I hope you guys are correct on what you are seeing, I am not an expert on late 20 th century Proofs.

But I think the grading stated by the seller is closer to reality, maybe a point higher on the half. You all must be seeing something several other people arent. Based on what this guy has left for sale, and the comment made by him "coins graded by a local dealer". I am willing to bet that these coins have been offered to several dealers in the area, and this is what is left and the guy was probaly told to put the rest on E-bay to maximize his money???

    Just my opinion

best of luck to the buyer, and I hope it goes his way, especailly the bid he made!!
