Over 80,000 coins on eBay ...

Not but a few months ago there were in the high 60,000 coins for auction on eBay. I just looked today and the number tops 80,000.

To the sellers out there, is this good or bad? Is there a better time of year to sell coins than others?

Please share any info or thoughts you might have on the above.

Thank you. Joe.

  • I would guess the more the merrier. If there is more to choose from more people will look. The more people looking the better it is for me.
  • Joe,

I believe your observation is accurate. It looks to me that the increase is primarily in modern coinage and to some extent, to more lesser quality coins being offered.

Do you feel that the quality of non-modern coins being offered has gone down or is this my imagination?

  • Yeah but out of the 20,000 new auctions I put up -a lot of them are closing today image

Bob, I don't know if the overall quality is down or it is just a function of there is more of it because of the increase in auctions.

Percentage wise it's probably close to the same though the quality overall on eBay is not very high to begin with.

    Joe.

The holidays are coming. More inventory being listed. Dealers want to dump whatever they can before the end of December (not all of them, but a lot) so they have streamlined inventories for the beginning of the year and F.U.N. Out with the old and look forward to the new!!!! You can find a bunch of coins listed now that dealers took chances with, and the ones that didn't work out end up trying to get dumped. January and February are generally slow, so you want to move everything possible now.

yes, some coins get hot at diffrent times, and bring a very good price , the coin market moves in cycles, one year it could be indian head cents, next year it could be early type coins. and have you noticed that there is many more expensive ,and rarer coins now listed on ebay.
  • I disagree with the statement that lesser quality coins are being listed. DHRC (david hall rare coins) had up 4 or 5 coin lots (can't remeber which) kennedy pr69dcams for about 20 bucks a piece BIN. not a bad starter set......of course there is junk but you have the high end coins in abundance....try to get a low end coin from R&I coins.....
