Some cat whipped one them out at the Baltimore show and was offering it around.
  • Well maybe this coin I bought is not FB, but it looks like it.

Does anyone have a good reference site that decribes the difference, with pictures, of FB and non-FB?

There are a lot of "looks like it" coins out there, but getting the FB designation can be pretty tough.

Ivan - can you post pics? If so and if they are clear enough, we can probably tell you without your having to spend time and $ submitting the coin. I can almost guarantee you though, that based on percentages, the odds are greatly against it being FB.

Ken has a very rare coin: It's the exceedingly rare 1945 FB Philadelphia dime that was minted in Denver. image

One point for IvanOnly, the only bands that the grading services look at when determining if a dime is FB or not are the middle bands. If the middle two horizontal bands are separated throughout their length, then the coin is deemed FB regardless of whether the top or bottom horizontal bands are totally separated. You might or might not like this point, but that's the way it is...

OK.... I get the hint. Here is the Best I can do on a 45P. Some Split but just not there. Collectors will pay a premium for 45's like this and Dealers will also try for some good money also. Sometimes Real Good money.

This PCGS 1945-P FB 10c sold for $9200 in 2001.

This older PCGS slabbed 1945-P FB 10c sold for $6900 in June 2002.

I believe you can click on these coins in the lower right side to zoom into them.

beware coins with the split in the center band "enhanced". i've seen 2 in the past year, 1 in a segs holder (maybe anacs, can't remember for sure) that was labeled as such, & another raw not labeled as such.

  • Thanks for all the info.
I see now what FB's are. At first I thought they were the bands that run vertical on the coin.
Now looking, the middle two bands are only one band on mine. The top and bottom bands are seperate.
Oh well, still a nice coin. I will try to get scans soon.

    Thanks Again
