Bye bye

At least for a little while. (We'll see how long I can stay away. Maybe a day. Maybe a week. Maybe a month.)

This forum's gotten way too nasty.

Think I'll go back to my Darkside roots for a while (even if it means boring them with talk about US coins). At least it's more civil there.

When y'all make special threads to flame each other and some even use their sig lines to throw a barb or two at other members, it's sunk far too low for me. I personally haven't been the target of any flames that I know of (though now maybe I can be called a snob for leaving), but watching the childish bickering has gone from boring to annoying to intolerable for me. At least for a while. We'll see how long I have the willpower to stay away.

C ya.

I don't blame you dude. I will look for you at FUN! PM me or vise-versa when it gets close to Jan so we can set something up. Perhaps my father can get our families in Disney for free since he is a retired Mouseaholic (over 25 yrs). That is if we can pry ourselves away from the show for a day. image

  • Well, I just left intensive care-it was touch-and-go there for awhile. But looks like the patient will live-additional therapy is
required, though. Where things are going is anyone's guess, but I do have a "take" on your decision.

Hey, look, I went though about as many ups and downs as anyone. Adrian and I "made up," and life goes on. I think you have to take a lot of what is said here with a grain of salt. As the saying goes, "take what you need and leave the rest." Despite the inherent problems with this forum, this IS a VERY valuable tool for collectors, and you get to hob-nob with the poor and rich at the same time. Yes,
you get to mingle with us crazies (sorry, don't mean to offend my fellow members with "issues"), but just don't take it too personally.
Here, like life, things can get a little hot. But at least its an OPEN forum. Even heated disagreements can be worked out and you can learn about many things -coins and otherwise-here.

Maybe you should get away from the heat for awhile. But those of us who come and go will be here when you decide to come back.

Good luck with whatever you decide,
    Barney

I don't blame you either, lord, but baseball does have a valid point. I have entertained quitting too, but, I'd rather see some necessary changes take place. The changes may be just around the corner, or not. Who knows? In any case, we'll welcome you back, for sure.

    Hey LM
You could always PM those you love the most. Who do you think will suffer the most?
A community PM forum is what we need. A few are invited, some are blocked out.
Or maybe this forum would allow a census block out system. By this, if a member feels someone has become unruly during a thread then a block out button could be clicked on that individual's post and when the number of block outs have reached, let's say 10, then that person will no longer be able to
post on any thread say.......for...........ever. LOL

LordM, With all due respect, take a mental health day or two (we all need them from time to time) but do not leave.image

As one of the first posters to help me with a question when I first joined this board (and I might add not be sarcastic or write what a wasteful thread or some other nasty remark), you will be depriving those that could benefit from your knowledge.

I know it's tough at times but we all have to try not to let the posting become personal. Just ignore it.

It is obvious that we have some strong personalities on this board with very different points of view. I think that is good. You can agree or disagree with what is posted, just look past the nasty (or as my grandmother would have said "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater").image

  • WOAH!

What did I miss??? I hate it when I miss something! imageimage

I think you should hang around LM - I like your style .... just my 3 cents worth imageimage
  • I must be blind. I don't see all this "bickering" that's going on. Maybe it's just because I ignore threads not involving coins. hmmmmm.... Give it some thought and do the same.

I have thought this also. What a waste of space. An ongoing declaration of contempt for another person.

  • Lord M, please step away from the ledge. I know that the great black abyss known as the Darkside appears to be a beckoning place of rest and comfort. It is not. It too has many hidden traps and sharp objects that are unfortunately invisible due to the darkness. Furthermore, don't listen to the screaming crowds intent on enjoying the sadistic pleasures that for them would accompany your leap. Instead, why not come back through the window and relax with those who enjoy your company? Examine a few coins and share a few stories of consummated deals.

After all, these boards are like the metal detecting you love. If all of the treasure was obvious there would be no thrill of discovery. Keep scanning the threads for there is still much gold to be found.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • One thing about the darkside. It is so vast it is very easy to avoid conflicts there. You could become the expert collector of coins from Burkina Faso and almost no one would be able to challenge your opinions there.

  • Hey Gemseeker--
Do you ever read the threads in real time? Or is there a one day delay in getting them wherever you are? I say this to you in all good humor, I just never see you post to a thread if it's not at least a day (or more) old.
    Cheers!

Com'on LM. You've been around here long enough to know the ol' Coin Board is just a microcosm of the human family. We visit nicely over family matters. We show up at family events. Once in a while, somebody has too much to drink and digs up an old wound. Words are spoken. People drop what they're doing to run over and watch the fight. Some cheer them on. Others (mostly the aunts) wring their hands. Some try to break it up. Some (mostly the bears) make them shake, and remind them they really love one another. Then we go back over by the fire, sit down and visit some more. Life goes on.

Don't just stomp outta the room every time there's a family feud! Things'll settle down. They always do.

If it isn't that way over on the Darkside, that's because those guys are a bunch of tight-butt stiff collar wierdos who spend all day looking at two-toned aluminum tiddly-winks and slugs with furrin squiggles all over them, from places like Ouagadougou. image

Maybe what we need is a mental health day each week.

But actually thats what I thought Clanks Schoolroom Tales

was supposed to accomplish. A good Forum is when the good people stick it thru

to keep things stable and set the example for civilized conduct and behavior.

  • Clankeye - To answer your question, no I do not respond to the posts in realtime. As you can tell from this reply, it is almost a week in coming. I do not log in that much and have a 17 page backlog now on the forum image
