I think the prices are a bit high. Although given how comprehensive the VAM book is, I wonder if that morgan could be identified to specific date possibilities over time?
Those prices are fairly inline with what I think they are worth. There are some people willing to pay big money for early type coin errors like that. I would be one of them if they were in my price range.
That seller has a lot of nice errors like that... what gets me though, is that the morgan actually got to XF condition... if I were to of seen a coin like that back then, I would not spend it, even if I didn't collect.
Neat errors. I wonder how the headless half dime would grade by NGC or PCGS. To me it looks circulated--there just looks like too much rub. Anyway, out of my price range.

I really cant comment on the Morgan, but I have dont business w/ Mr Byers. Hes a fair guy, he offers strong money for good coins. The off center half dime isnt in my collecting budget at the moment, but a MS62 20% O/C can easily fetch $7500, so I dont see why not a 65 cant fetch 20k

When I clicked on the link the first thing I saw was all those zeros in the price and I said that's got to be a Byers auction. Major Morgan striking errors are really rare, really cool and really expensive. nwcs asks if it could be dated; well I can't tell the obv but it's not the A, B, or D but looks like C3 rev so that narrows it down between 1878-1904. There might be a die diagnostic to link it to a certian year & vam #, that would really be neat!
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
As to how the Morgan got worn down, I'm pretty sure somebody found it, thought it was really neat, and kept it as a pocket-piece to show anybody who cared. If I didn't know of it's value, I'd probably do the same thing.

Does anyone know more of the history of this Morgan?
