    Anaconda,

I'm curious why you state that D. Hall is/was the "most influential man in coins in the last 50 years" as opposed to someone like a Q. David Bowers or a Harry Bass or a Walter Breen or someone of that calibre who has done so much extensive research and done so much to advance the hobby of numismatics and educate others,,,,,,as opposed to an individual like D. Hall who gives me the impression that everything he has "done" for numismatics was with the sole intent of lining his pockets and how he could profit from numismatics in general.

I don't concur. Most of the people there actually like each other, although it might not appear that way on the surface. I'm not getting that impression here.

    Dragon,

If it wasn't for the money-hoarding marketing-driven promoters out there every day trying to find new ways to make more long-term (read: not ripping off customers) profits from numismatics; would Mr. Bass be known as such a great collector? His collection is known for its great return on investment as much as it is for anything else...much of that return was derived from the promotion of rare coins by others. The cost of most rare coins seems to me to be more dependent on their FAME, not their RARITY. I'm on the snake's side on this one.image

I didn't want to saddle the open forum with this despicable claptrap, which is why
I suggested it should be buried very deeply where no thread resusitator would
ever see it. There are rays of hope embedded within the thread and no doubt
even if Carol doesn't kill it, it will soon enough be in the archives. ...so it goes.

I have worked in busy Trauma Centers for the last 16 years of my life and I can tell you that a hot sumer week-end night is a dangerous time to be out in the city. The behaviour is much like that of gas molecules. When they are heated they move faster, there are more collisions, and damage is done. I have always assumed that it was the uneducated masses that could be moved along so easily by external forces. I see here that the educated simply choose a venue in which the same trauma occurs but no one ends up in the Emergency Room. For that part I am greatfull. I have enough work to do each and everyday trying to heal the physical wounds inflicted by man on other men. The emotion issues I leave to someone else.

  • Breen - he's no where on my list. He stated his opinions as facts, based them on thin information and held them with white knuckles. Your typical psuedo genius. More in love with looking good then being good. Ever see the photo of him in his red book on half cents? He loved himself more than anything in the world

He was also a convicted child molester. You touch children, little innocent children and take that precious innocence from them, you can't in my mind, be a man of respect. Period. Prison is what they deserve or worse. Convicted by a jury or you handed over your reputation and cut a deal......as good as objective proof for me.

Bowers - my number two pick. Creative, productive. I have every one of his books and read most of them. He is a legend. I could go on but read his stuff, it's fantastic. Makes me want to give up coins and just do books.

David Hall. No one has done what he has done for people that love coins. His motivation was surely for money but also no one does coins just for the money. We all love art, history and people. Making your living in coins like David Hall is not just a job. Besides, Ford gave us the car and he did that primarily for money, and we have towns named after him.

PCGS started the real grading revolution. I watched it unfold in the early 80s when I was working on my MBA. He took the fat out of coins. They're way more fungible now, then ever. Now, when you spend a dollar on coins, you get 80 to 95 cents worth of coins, maybe even more if you're a bright cherry picker with an eye for quality and you've identified the blue sheet thumpers in your neck of the woods who buy everything and pay wholesale money for it. It used to be that you got 50 cents on the dollar. Anyone that can double my value and the value of all other collectors is my guy. I may ask him some tough questions that he probably won't answer but he is still tops. Ever read his book "A Mercenary's Guide to Rare Coins"? He is a very clear thinker. And in coins, clear thinking and an ability to communicate it is a rare commodity.

  • TRADERBOBZ - yes, collecting Lincolns makes you a pi$$ ant, like me and my 13 year old boy, Sean, Anaconda2 here on the boards. Incidentally, in Baltimore, I bought a NGC proof 65 (?) Lincoln with cool green toning and paid like twice Greysheet for it. So, let's pi$$ together.

i thought i was on the right track with the lincolns, some people actually think that collecting them is a easy task........good to know anaconda!

  • I usually try to stay out of these frays, but I want to make a couple comments.

I like Anaconda less and less with each post of his I read.

I wonder. You talk about your children. Do you talk the same way to them as you do to the strangers here?

<< <i>if my 13 year old son comes in here and sees me called a "sheister", well then, welcome to life. He knows me and he might as well hear bad things about me here than from someone who really knows me. >>

No one here knows me, either...I wouldn't have a problem having any one of my family reading what I say here or what others say to or about me. As I teach my kids, respect flows both ways.

BTW, I think you really owe an apology to Barney. That was hurtful. Do you really want Anaconda2 to see how you treat people?

    Adrian,
I collect strictly Key date coinage for me. In fact I despise "moderns" with just about every ounce of my being but I don't knock anyone for collecting them. Just leaves more classics for me to go for. I have only a few and they are the matte proof jeffersons and kennedy.

I also buy "type" items for my son's 1800-date type set. He is 4yrs. old. I need 2 seated dollars and the gold page and it's done.

I am currently looking for a low grade chain cent. (g-g+) Because if I spend more my wife and 3 kids might kill me or die of starvation or I might day from hypothermia when she boots my arse into the cold Ohio weather.

Maybe I'm alone on this one, but what really sparked me up on this thread and shortened my chain as you say was the way you attacked Barney. Had that post not have been there I would not have even replied initially. I found your comments totally out of line. If that were me, I would be looking you up at the next show and It wouldn't be to say "HI".

    Good day

  • Barney? You must be joking me. Read what he wrote about me. Make believe you're me. Now, what would you write? Gah head. You flamed me. Now what would you write, smarty pants. Give it your best. Or do you only have time to criticize? Barney needs help. Why don't you pm him and offer to help him, since you're so concerned about the guy.

I was kind to the guy. He's the one who needs to get his emotions under control. I imaged a coin for him for free, mailed it back to him with out him offering to pay my postage, offered to give him a few thousand dollars worth of coins to sell for me, took his numerous phone calls and then he comes in and gives his poor imitation of a person with a mental disorder??? Hello!!

Well, I'm really hurt. I can't believe you guys don't like me. I've been nothing but nice to the both of you. And this is what I get. Humpf. Good bye! Ok, I'm back. Gone again. Hello......Pahlease!

    adrian
  • Anaconda writes He's the one who needs to get his emotions under control

Whats this all about. Like a whiney little kid on the play ground, "He hit me first".

As Anaconda rants and raves he say the other guy has to get it under control.

Pardon me, I laughed so hard I have to change my pants.
  • Hey Jim! Good to have you back! I've missed you. Wanna play?

  • I can't believe everyones falling for anacondas crap. He must be having a grand old time baiting everyone right and left. Laughing all the time. As I said 2 pages ago, this thread should die and soon. The only purpose it serves is to stroke a very big ego. Lets get back to the FUN of coins.

I guess Anaconda just can do no wrong. Even when his obvious mental shortcomings are exposed what it really is is Anaconda baiting us for his own amusement. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe this guy is really just a clown is a coin dealer suit.

Can I "TTB" this thread as in "to the bottom"???

This thread is exactly why I vacate the boards for a week or so and then come back on an lurk to see if anybody is talking about coins.

Too bad I had to TTT it to make this post.

  • Jim- When mentioning Members with "obvious mental shortcomings", I would think of a few 100 Members before I would get to Adrian's name. Your ranting and raving only continues to show your inability to be objective.

So as to better understand the rules. Rule #1:
Support ANACONDA in any shape, fashion or form, whether that's directly or simply his right of expression, or even come off as possibly doing so and you're an "Adrian Ass Kisser".
Support any of the other members here and you're being one of the guys.

Rule #2: Question anyones motives/ agenda or status and you're a Flamer. Question Adrian's intent and you're someone to be admired and looked up to.

Good. I think I got that now. -It's just nice to keep refreshed of the rules around here. They seem to be changing a lot.

Come on now man. I respect your opinion totally, but this Adrian fellow is a poppus ass to the 10th degree. Ive had it up to here (visual: the top of my head) w/ all the BS on this forum. Why the hell "support" some pompus ass who comes to the forums to degrade the members? Yeah, the guy has nice coins. So do TDN, EVP, Laura and MANY others, only they arnt asses. This guy comes here, creates some kinda BS, then hours later says he was just joking. Same thing w/ all that recent "hero worship" of David Hall... Jesus, people... Some of you are like lambs to the slaughter... Take the damn blinders off.
