That's funnyI've asked a few stupid questions and given some really stupid answers but still have a lot of fun on the forums.
Welcome orangehgpro.

A good set to start with is Jefferson nickels. Putting together a set from circulation can be a challenge (but very fun, and cheap, too!).

Collect what interests you, and not what others say. I started collecting a year ago, and after 9 months I finally decided to concentrate on Walking Liberty's, Franklins, and Kennedy's.
Got your suit on yet?
Really, take some time looking at auctions and prices. Figure in your resources
and the type of coin you like. All coins are collectable, it's what you like and can afford.
Remember it is a hobby, not a source of income. There are exceptions (disclaimer).
Take your time and enjoy collecting.

Nice way to introduce yourself to the board.
I'll add my welcome and suggest you go to the Library. There are many coin books, that you can check out for free.Learn from those books.Go to the show and look at coins before you buy.

An additional idea for getting started without spending alot is to go to your local bookstore (since you cannot find a coin shop) and look into the Whitman &/or Dansco coin albums available there. Many of them have started to carry them since the advent of the State quarters.
