Picture Troubles

I have a digital camera and I took pictures of a coin that I wanted to show on this forum. When I try to upload my picture from my harddrive over at the test forum I get an error message. It says your upload exceeds 50kb this file is being deleted. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

What file format is the pic? bmp, jpg, gif, etc. What dimensions (pixels). For example: 1024x768, 800x 600, etc. If it is a jpg and larger than about 320x320, it may exceed the limitation. You'll need to resize it. Do you have any editing software to do that?

If it is a bmp, that's a very uncompressed format and file size is large. You'll need to convert it to jpg or gif.

  • Russ,

Thanks for the reply, The picture is in jpg format. I don't have any editing software that I know of. I guess I need to get the owners manual for my camera and try to figure this out.

    Thanks, John

    John,

Microsoft Paint has some limited capabilities for resizing and cropping. Use the Image / "stretch/skew" function and enter horizontal and vertical dimensions (you can also use it to "shrink") in the stretch section. Make sure when opening the file, to set the drop down box to jpg file type - it defaults to bmp.

Hi John, you can also find tons of image hosting sites on the web that give you a small amount of free space. You can then post larger pics using the "picture" button in the reply, linked to the site where you store it.here is one , and there are many others out there too.Just do a search for free image hosting from your favorite search engine, and you'll find a few others as well. Also,
here is a link to a GREAT free image editing software that will let you resize your jpg's as well as many other usefull functions.FREE IMAGE SOFTWARE Good Luck.image
  • Russ,

Microsoft Paint did the trick. That is a very nice program, thank you for the help. I just wanted to show everyone my latest purchase from David Hall Rare Coins. It is a common date but I think its a wonderful coin.

    Thanks Again, John
