OK City show last weekend was great except my car got stolen

Last weekend was the Oklahoma City coin show and it was pretty good. Scott Thomas, the owner of Edmund Coin, ran the show and did a great job. For the little he makes on it he has to do a lot of work. There were lots of dealers and lots of public. Everyone seemed to be able to do some business.
It was actually the first time I ever had a table in my own name. I must say the advice given on the board helped a lot. I made sure every coin I put out for sale was priced on the front and put my coins out in order. I also tried to greet everyone looking over my coins without being pushy. You guys give good advice.
The only bad thing that happened was my car got stolen. I gave my keys to the valet at the hotel I stayed at and when I went to get my car they couldn't find the keys or the car. If you stay at the hotel more than 1 night they use the same ticket over and over again instead of issueing a new ticket each time you park the car. I think what happened is someone posed as an employee and when I gave them the key they took the car and drove off. One of the valet guys told me that's what happened before. I've had the car 10 years so it wasn't worth much. Probably time for a new car anyway so I'm not too upset. Now if it happened to a brand new car it'd be a different story.

Very sorry to hear about the car. It sounds like the show went well for you though. You seem like one of the good guys out there in the numismatic community. It must have been exciting to have your own table for the very first time!

My sympathies, and I know exactly how you feel.

What would your slabbed coins be worth if the grading services went out of business? What would your coins be worth if the Internet was taken offline for good?
It's just a car but if it was one of Lucy's cars from the 50's we would have been able to hear her scream all the way to Troll Island!!!!

Interesting you mentioned Scott - I sat right next to him at the grading seminar this summer. Really nice guy.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I hate it when that happens!
Sorry.
I'm so sorry to hear about that. I hope that unlike when the King County Police found the car thieves actually DRIVING my wife's stolen car (and did nothing) that these pukes will be caught, and successfully prosecuted.
But... I'm not going to hold my breath. At my age, that could be FATAL.
So sorry about your car!
Exciting about your first show, though.
Ed Hipps is a class act, and one of the real gentlmen in the hobby. Almost worth a car to ride home with him, wasn't it?
Keep us Texans informed when and where you're going to be running a table!
Hope they find the low-life that took your car.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
Hope they recover it. I assume the hotel does not consider themselves liable? Was the person in uniform?
I can sympathize, having had to report my credit card stolen this week. Somebody ran a thousand bucks up on it.
didn't get rid of them right away and they ended up going to the construction site with me where I worked
and after awhile I had let them use my car to go and buy some beer. After a couple of hours went by, they hadn't come back yet. A couple of weeks went by before the police informed me they had found my car and it turned up right back at the construction site. I didn't file charges, I figured the girls were just out having fun. I was glad to get the car back, no harm done and I never saw them gals again.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Sorry to hear about your car. Hope they find it.....or it was insured. Get yourself a new one, you deserve it!
