Artificially Toned or not?

Can anyone tell me if this 1920s Buffalo Nickel is naturally toned? or is it just to hard to tell by this image?

No one can know for sure but many people can tell you their opinion. And I'm sure there are people who could make one to look just like that (or better) if you want.

My opinion is it's "natural" album toning, but that's just an un-skilled guess so you may want to wait and see what somebody who knows what they are talking about has to say.

It looks like what happens after nickel is dipped & put in an album. It must be natural because it's in a slab. heehehe
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Natural. I have moved many slabbed coins with the same type of toning. Looks great!

I always thought album toning without the aid of other chemicals was natural toning. If it's not, why is it not as good as envelope toning, toning from a cardboard mint set holder from the '40s and '50s, or toning from a bag?

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Er - guys - wasn't that the coin that CoinDr showed last night in another thread?

I say original, but would it not make sense that the best coin doctors would take a already toned coin like this one and enhance it. This would fool the Grading services with their quick looks at coins.

I like it and would say you have a nice coin do not mess with it.
