If your PCGS coins were stolen and...

you had the slab numbers... assuming the theif is stupid enough to not crack the coins, can they be given back to you if they show up on the market in the same holders?

They can be returned to you as stolen property after they are used as evidence. Be prepared to prove you were the owner. I laid all my slabs on my scanner 9 at a time and scanned them all. Provides some evidence I owned them, the cert number, and an image of the coin.

ASsuming you had proof the numbers were yoursand if you had the scum who stole them, they would probably be taken as evidence, and returned after any trials......if they were just in a dealers inventory, I would think that dealer could face charges of dealing stolen merchandise, in which case, he would prolly be willing to give them back to you to avoid trouble.............but I'm not epert in legals stuff by any means.....

    Jarrett,

If the coins are stolen, leaglly, the owner still has title to them and has the right to get them back, even if they are not in their orignal holders, so long as they can be positively identified. Obviously, if they are in their holders, that part of the process is much easier.

On a practical basis, it can be a lengthy and trying process, however. The legal process must take its course and there are often uncooperative parties involved. That's the short answer.

i've stated before that 1 extremely positive aspect of slabs is the serial number. but like you pointed out, it is only useful up to the point that a thief is too stupid not to crack em out. luckily, i bet a lot of thieves are that stupid.....
