New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I got into collecting when my father was commissioned as an officer in 1994 and the Navy flew me home from my ship to give him his first salute. And when an enlisted person gives an officer their first salute, the tradition is for the officer to give them a brand new silver eagle. That is what got me into collecting. I know eagles aren't a favorite on these forums, but they have a different meaning to me.

By the way, I think the ASE are pretty neat myself, and have all the years in uncirculated except for 1993 and 1995. Plus, I am starting to work on the ASE Proofs also.
